2020 Remote start

I'm a dealer for 12voltsolutions and can get you guys that system, which is really nice and all plug & play. If you do the smart phone option it's completely free for the first year. IF anyone wants, will do a better price, let me know.

i have a 2020 sr5 4runner with the real key, not push button. i tried and it did not work. i was wondering if the dealership can enable the remote start or remote start don't exist with mine.

For the 2020 4runners, all models have the capability. Now only the pro and limited have it activated from factory using the fob or app.

You can get aftermarket ( have it through your own bought and installed or through a 3rd party installing it) which will have different options. The general norm is fob activated after 3 locks, but others have a separate aftermarket fob or phone app.

I have a TRD ORP and went with an aftermarket self install which works great.

i'm staying away from a subscription based thing except for internet access of course. they are starting to get greedy now. i can live without it.

BMW wants an equivalent amount yearly to use Carplay that's built in to the car.

Subscriptions and their recurring revenue are everywhere now if you hadn't yet noticed. It's the way of the world; pay or don't play.

I have a 2021 TRD Pro and I didn't pay for remote start as an option and the dealer never mentioned it. Then I saw the Youtube video and gave it a try...what do you know, I have remote start from the key FOB. No subscription I'm aware of either.

Key words are "aware of". You will find out in a year.

If its your factory system, then it will cease to work at the 1 year mark. The first year is complimentary and no subscription information is ever really mentioned until its time to pay for it.

So a quick update...my subscriptions expired late January timeframe. The remote start is still functioning via the remote fob. I have to carefully press the lock button twice then hold the button...the presses are a bit tricky as it’s a quick press twice and hold. A bit different than the other vehicles. Sometimes it takes two tries to get it to remote start but it’s still functioning.

It can be added with aftermarket modules to any vehicle however it can take a lot effort for some vehicles. I added remote start to my Silverado duramax diesel - took sometime to get it added due to the delay for the glow plugs and other items I had to consider during the install but it works perfect. There are kits which are plug and play for specific vehicles which makes it extremely easy to add remote start. Added remote start to the RAV4...plug and play kit. Took longer to remove the panels and wire tie it in place than plugging it in and testing.

I have a 2021 TRD Pro with push button start and the JBL Sound System. I was pulling my hair out because nothing I tried was working even though I had checked all the boxes and should have had it from the factory. On a hunch, I decided to give my other fob a go. It started right up. So one fob work and the other one doesn’t. Maybe one is some sort of “master fob?”

Install went fine. You have to remove trim and the glove box. The video they provide doesn’t do a great job of explaining the trim removal but it got me there. They also didn’t explain how to secure the module within the dash. They provided zip ties but didn’t show how they secured the device.

That being said, it is plug and play. I’m pleased.
