I'm still waiting on an answer from the dealer, but some searching indicates those with push button start have it.

All the 2020s with Smartkey do have the option using the Toyota app. I'm not sure if that extends to earlier years as well.

There's a Youtube video with a guy using the key and the 3 pushes of the door lock button like older ones. The 2 he tested were a trd pro and limited.

My understanding is it works on models with the JBL stereo/speaker system. The rest of us are out of luck.

There are ORP without JBL that have it. It may come in a future software upgrade. The original 2020 brochure basically says they all come with it. Then newer brochures now have an added page that says only on Limited and Pro with JBL. I have someone looking further into it. I believe it can be coded to turn it on...

its a option i got on my 2019 ORP

As with the remote start app function, it comes standard on the 2020 TRD Pro and Limited.
I had the key remote start as a factory option on my 2015 Trail.
Now I have a 2020 TRD Off Road Premium, and it does not come with either.
I am hoping that Toyota comes out with a plug and play accessory for remote start, like they did with the previous years.

Any chance you tried the key? I take delivery of a ORP Fri. myself.

I have a 2020 TRD ORP and the remote start was not active.

I did however, install RC Autoworks’ remote start/alarm and have the capability with added security.

I did and I was quite disappointed.
The salesman told me that the vehicle had remote start via the app.
I really like that feature as I live in a hot climate.
But after much research, including a call top Toyota, I found that only the TRD Pro and Limited have the functionality via the app, which mean it works via the key remote as well.
They go hand in hand.
Im assuming they have the same wiring harnesses, and maybe it just requires an additional module.
Im hoping there will be a kit available.
I only use Toyota oem remote start kids, not interested in aftermarket.

from my understanding at my dealership, which ever model has the push button start has this function ...

only things i dislike about it, is the range sucks and when you unlock it to gain access, it shuts the truck off

If your remote works, then you can also use the app which uses internet. Meaning you can remote start from across the world.

I had the remoter start on my 2015 and it also shut off when you open the door. I suppose that was safety or who knows.
It made sense on my 2015 because the engine is running without the key in the vehicle, so the steering wheel was locked, stc.
But with keyless, not sure thats necessary.
Maybe its so that no one can go up to the vehicle and drive away in it.

After some more research it's looking like only those with JBL audio have it using the key and the app?

All others would be an installed option. I'm guessing there's an oem kit available from Toyota.

my 2007 chevy avalanche was the first factory remote start vehicle i owned, and you were allowed to unlock doors, insert key in the ignition and put it into drive without the vehicle turning off, and if you were to press the brake pedal before inserting the key, the engine would shut off.

I had high hopes the 4runner was the same minus inserting the key in the ignition lol

Our 2020 TRD Pro came with the remote start. I have 12 Volt Solutions on my Taco with the app and love it, very easy to install and setup.
