3rd Gen Stereo Head Unit Install w/Pic's

Does a stock 2000 head unit have an aux input on the back? I want to use my iPod via cable.

It's been so long since I've fooled with one, but I believe you would hook the Remote wire up to it any vehicle with a power antenna, if it doesn't already have its own separate wire. If you are running an amp, it would have to be tied into it as well. The remote wire basically just sends a small signal to whatever device it's hooked up to, to trigger a relay so it will power on.

Correct. If the HU doesn't have a specific line for the power antenna, hook it up to the remote line.

Then route a switch inline so your power antenna isn't up when you are listening to CD's or any AUX sources. One of the things i LOATHE about Pioneer line up.

I'm actually doing that today (time permitting). My old JVC deck would only raise the antenna with the radio, but my current Eclipse deck puts it up anytime it's on. Can't listen to anything when on any sort of overgrown trail.

Got mine installed this weekend

Everything went smooth, with this unit the antenna only raises for the radio, when you switch to cd, dvd, or anything else the antenna goes down. The factory speakers really came to life and it sounds a hundred times better!

Got my HU installed and also wired up the speakers but couldn't find a great place to mount the crossovers. Anyone know of a good place to put them?

What kind of crossovers? Size, type, dash mount vs floor mount etc etc...

They are probably about 2" x 3". You can mount them anywhere I believe.

There's really no need to remove the amp, but you do need to unhook the wire harness that's goes into it to connect it to the new one. I just left the amp in there when I did my install a couple months ago.

It's not just a lot simpler - it is crazy to not spend the 20 bucks for the adapter. Otherwise you are splicing 10+ wires into the harness and something will go wrong. The adapter is wired to the new radio on the workbench in 10 minutes or so and you are done. Plug the other end into the factory plug and everything works.

ok so i found a harness at wally world and i was wondering if there were any more detailed pictures of connecting the wiring harness. i have never done this before. i have vary little experience in this. thanks

For all us Single Din guys.... I made a custom Backlit TRD Screen to go under the single din radio...

I do need a new deck though.... damn thing only plays CD's and Radio... I need something a little more modern! lol!

I keep seeing that people take the factory amp out. Will the amp not hook up to the HU? Not compatible?

Did you buy a dash install kit or just the OEM storage tray and use hardware from the HU kit? Looks like the latter.

whoa you did the deckplate mod with a K&N CAI? my 4runner came with a CAI so i didnt think i could do that mod.

that is nuts!!! i just bought my brother a nexus 7..is there an advantage to installing that over say an appradio and using ARliberator to mirror the phone screen onto the appradio?

do you have the 3G version so you can stream pandora and navigation? (you must based on this pic..)
did you just hardwire the power?
does it come on when you start the car?
what about music quality? does it function like a head unit to drive subs/amps/speakers?
ANSWER ME!! I MUST KNOW IF A $199 ANDROID TABLET is the holy grail of 2-DIN headunits.

I ready have a complete car audio and changing the head unit is super easy.

The 2013 Nexus 7 (or 7.7") is expected out in June-July ....

I have a K&N drop in filter.... fits in the stock airbox
