So I have a question for us 3rz owners. I achieved more lift from the 99 springs than just 1" and the front is kinda bouncy. What I'm thinking of is instead of running the tundra trd setup with 5100s getting my hands on some tacoma trd springs for the v6 and running those with the 5100 for the tacoma. Thoughts?

I would be interested to hear how that works out, if you end up doing it.

I can tell you from experience that the tundra 5100's are much stiffer than stock, I expected that. I have heard that the Tacoma version is a little more mellow. And I have no idea about the Taco springs...

I would love to get my hands on this. Talk about a rare item!!

I looked for a used one for a year & a half with no luck. I ended up biting the bullet & buying a new high boost S/C from LCE since I knew they would be out of stock soon. I'm looking to install it in the next few weeks.

I can't even start to think about it. My Lil 3rz gets me around well enough for right now.

So I found the part numbers for the 3rz trd springs for the tacoma and I'm looking at doing 5100 shocks up front and the land cruiser shocks in the rear with my 906 springs. Just kind of waiting on some cashola now lol.

Springs are 100ea from camelback. 280 for a front setup isn't bad at all.

So I went with tundra 5100 shocks and kept my 99 springs. I like the feel. There's a lot more damping control on the spring. I did the 2nd perch and got 2" I believe. 22" hub to fender measurement.

Also anyone running a piggyback tuner?? Just wondering about ease of installation.

Been wondering the same for over a year, can't seem to find anyone that has broken down the install process, I haven't contacted him, but boomslang may be able to make plug n play harnesses for our trucks.

3rd gen 4Runners are all pretty similar when it comes to suspension setups, armor, body mods, etc. But us 3RZ guys have a unique set of problems that are inherent to our engine. I think this thread could be a good place for some of the unique info that we need. Things like gearing for a specific tire size with our venerable 4 cylinder, Engine mod dos and do-nots, maintenance concerns specific to our powerplant, etc. And maybe just a little group within a group of guys and gals that have a little less rotating mass than the masses.

Rebuild

My first toyota, coming from a jeep. Always wanted a 4runner but couldn't afford one. Picked this up with a blown motor. Been trying to find a replacement motor but they are hard to find up in Canada!

Just did a full rebuild on my 4Runner. Runs like a champ. There is a company in Bakersfield Ca that remans 3RZ motors.

Also look at Yotashop.com. I have not heard too much about their crate motors, but they seem to be the real deal.

Good Luck!

Loving this thread so far!
Long time lurker on this forum, i don't post much since so much can be learned from searching. But i for one am glad that this has come into existence.
There is so little on here about our fierce little 4 cylinder and having this will be a great resource for everyone!

Here's my gal, 1999 2wd. Picked her up cheap because shes a strange one but cant complain. Hopefully there is a lot more to come.

The reason there is very little on here about the 2.7 is because it just runs. No belt to worry about, no spark plug wires(on the late ones), just an occasional starter contact to fix. And you'll never hear the 2.7 owner asking if he can tow the titanic over the rocky mountains.

I can vouch for the starter contacts lol. Happened to me in Arizona but I was driving to Michigan lol.

Yeah good point. Still its nice to see how people have tuned or upgraded their trucks. Gives me ideas....unfortunately ideas that my wallet doesnt like...

I went with the TRD Tundra springs, Billy 5100's on 2nd perch. I don't find them stiff at all but I knew I was adding a 100lb bumper & 50lb skid plate.

I just recently bought a 96 3RZ 4runner 2 wheel drive. It had an unfortunate meeting with another vehicle before I bought it. The people that had it didn't try to start it or anything after the wreck. I gave them $300, started it right up and pulled it on a trailer. I bought it with intentions of parting it out. I started to tinker with it some and pulled the radiator support out to get the radiator out of the fan and dang if it didn't just run so good. So I started buying parts and now about have it ready for some paint. I will probably have $1250 or so in it when I get done. I'll probably drive it for a little while and who knows.

Damn good job...I think it's cool that you are giving it a second chance in life and decided to put her back on the streets instead of dismantling her, even though I have the exact same rig and would have snagged up few parts but I like this much better, I think you should drive it till wheels fall off ...which won't be for a very long time..enjoy it.

Once again good job brotha.

Started out as a basic white 4runner... 014.jpg
