I completely here where you are coming from and I agree with you. However, one thing is that I will be including adjustable cam gears, a full valve kit, MLS Head gasket (Multi layer shim), as well as some other engine supporting mods, this won't be as simple as bolt on and go. There is an extensive engine supporting mod list I've made with the help of Brad over at LCE. These mods could allow me to adjust the boost from 10-12lbs around town to 18-20lbs on the trails, dunes, etc. (wherever there is dirt).
Essentially I will have full tune-ability with all of the mods, most helpful will be the stand alone system.
*Note* Not mommy and daddy's money that will make this happen I have worked consistently for 5 years building and acquiring as I go.
My plans for reliability will depend on auctioning with a dealers license to acquire an FZJ 80 or FJ 80 that is wrecked to part out and keep front suspension mounts, links, components, axle (maybe rear axle).
Opinion about SAS with the FZJ 80 axle?
RHD axle wont be a problem because the R150F>2TR-FE Bell Housing>T-case adapter>Gear driven case is in fact RHD. I will be running 35's at the largest as of right now, I have 33's and 4.10 gearing, I have noticed a bit of a power loss from the 33's but if you look at the factory spec it is a 31 tire with 4.10 gearing, I think Toyota knows their stuff because they nailed it on the head when they geared and spec'd the 4Runner.
-My gearing will be 4.88, with 2.28:1 double low again, it will be plenty low to creepy crawl, I would be in 4th and 5th if i had the 4.70:1 Duals running that setup.
