4Runner is costing me beer!

Hi There,

So I've had the 4Runner Limited with 3rd row seats since December, and love it. But the trunk has a very slight slope to it, and my drive way has a slight slope to it also, so far I've lost a jar of curry sauce and more seriously 2 bottles of beer to the pavement, because as I open the tailgate slowly, they run out, despite my best clown juggling attempts to catch them before they do slip out.

Does anyone know of any product or accessory I can install to add a small 2-3" lip at the opening of the trunk on the floor, so anything that might try to roll out will be caught, allowing me to open the door without fear of precious liquid being drunk by the pavement.

I looked at a trunk liner, but couldn't find one which included a lip.

OK, first of all quit buying your beers 1 or 2 bottles at a time at the Jiffy Mart - you're a big boy now and you should be buying it by the case.

Oh, my Husky rear mat had a lip so big, I had to trim the damned thing off, it got in the way.

I have been a victim of the third row slope myself... I've seen the net that goes across trunk, but I like this lip idea you have come up with.

To clarify it was a case of beer, the case fell out and smashed two if my precious!

Btw, I have the net, but it only connects at either side, not to the floor, though I have thought about trying to Velcro it to the floor mat.

I lost a few beers to a fall out the trunk like you.
Now, beer is designated to the floor of back seat or securely positioned behind other bags that are also in the trunk.

Wrong! Toyota OEM net has 2 hooks to connect to the floor!

got one from ebay for 1/4 of the Toyota price. And it's a toyota OEM net

Edit: just saw your post stating you have the net already! If I buy a 12 beer package, I just put it in the net, its large enough to hold it.

My cargo net hooks in 4 places as well. My Prius cargo net might only link at 2 places.

The Husky cargo liner has a lip on it, but its pretty soft material. Havent conducted a beer-retention test since I installed it...yesterday.

Wrong! Toyota OEM net has 2 hooks to connect to the floor!

It only connects at the bottom on the sides, in the middle at the bottom it is slack enough that my dog can crawl under it, that in my book is not connected to the floor. It is a Toyota OEM net

HAHAHAHA. This is hilarious. I'm glad someone shares my pain too. Same situation with the slope on the driveway. I was highly upset when I lost two jars of Jam which I bought from Sams Club.

For important things which reqired to be carried wth care like beer for instance I use a nice box I picked from Costco one day (on the left):

There are old plactic shower curtain in the box just in case I need to put something dirty on folded rear seats.

The most effective and free way is to roll the window down and move the stuff that might fall before opening the door.

Just an FYI that they make different cargo nets for the 5ths. I have both and never lost a beer yet!lol
