Also, visually lift not that much different, but it must be there to some degree as my kids have a harder time getting in this vs. my Limited.
uhm... I'm sorry, am i the only one that didn't buy the TRD pro for the "lift" around here?
if i cared that much about a 1" lift, i would just bought an SR5 and lifted myself with 1-3" adjustable aftermarket coilovers and still probably paid less.
i bought it because i paid the same as a trail edition out the door and got a truck that i liked the way it looked MUCH better off the showroom floor than any other version of it AND probably will have a tad better resale in the long run than any other version of the 4runner simply because of the "special edition" BS attached to it to boot.
i didn't buy with the illusion that i was getting some "special" suspension...if anyone that bought it for that reason thought that i have a bridge to sell you.
and maybe I'm also in the lonely club of hating sunroofs? I've never open the sunroof on any car that had it. all my trucks had full length racks, the sunroof became a window into a rack.
KDDS? ... not sure how much you guys off road your trucks, but one thing you learn REAL fast is that all that type of technology is exactly what will bite you in the ass when you're out 100miles off the nearest paved road. Heigh adjustable suspesions, electronic disconnect sway vars, kinetic sway bars like Land rover tried one time and now Toyota.. all those gismos brake and you end up to limping back on to a paved road.
Just ask those that had KDDS on the first lexus or toyotas that offered them what they paid to get them replaced when the finally shit to bed.... pass.
i was going to order a Trail Edition without sunroof, KDDS or that stupid sliding cargo tray... then the TRD Pro came out and i had my truck.
We are talking about those poor souls who thought they were getting the front end height Toyota claimed...... .5" and a few suspension mods doesn't justify me paying 39-40k instead of my SR5's 34k price tag....especially since I do zero off roading. The 5k in my pocket sure feels good. Now....if I was an off road enthusiast then the TRD makes sense. If you read my earlier posts I praise the TRD for its looks, but its unfair that Toyota lied to people about the height.I wouldn't worry about all the negativity focused on the TRDP. If you notice it's mostly from non-TRDP owners trying to justify to themselves why they didn't get one. I also paid less than MSRP and not much more than a TE. I test drove the SR5 and liked the TRDP setup/ride much better. If you are looking for something that you don't have to start modding and kill your warranty the TRDP is an excellent choice. And yes, I agree that the TRDP looks much better.

if you're doing zero off roading then i don't see how you have a horse in this race.
the suspension set up (lift or no lift), wheels and tires, and if you care, the general looks on the TRD, is more what attracted some over a limited or an SR5. i don't think anyone was thinking the lift was the "thing" about a TRD pro, i hope. anyone with a calculator could figure out $40 on eBay could get you a bigger lift. if they did then they made a bad decision for sure.
the only real argument here would be between the trail an the TRD pro...and if you actually off road you figure out which fits you better right after a test drive and looking at the equipment choices. i was all about he Trail but i was going to strip all the add ons and put better suspension...basically a TRD pro . other guys are looking at the flexibility of slow speed crawling while still having a good feeling on road drive, the trail.

Pictures don't lie if you look above. You'll see what I mean. Toyota flat out lied to TRD people who pre-ordered. Not cool. Your correct I don't do any off roading, but then again that's not even the point here.if you're doing zero off roading then i don't see how you have a horse in this race.

Not sure where you live, but here in the Midwest there has been no dealer who sold one under msrp. That's a fact.I second this….Man there is a lot of negativity on here towards the Pro. If you don’t like it; don’t buy it. Stop trying to tell me or others the justification on why we ‘lost out’ or ‘were lied to’ by Toyota due to the Prototype looking different and having different features then the Production Model…Ummmm that’s why they call it a PROTOTYPE you genius (even this Grunt figured that one out pretty f’ing quick). Also, if you look at the prices of T4R’s they run anywhere from $37K up to $48K and the Pro runs right there in the middle at $42K MSRP. If you can’t negotiate w/the Dealer on the price, then you have no business buying a new car in the first place (I feel bad for you, and you should give up your man-card). I walked out with mine at MSRP including all the goodies+ no trade and $12K cash, with a Platinum Warranty, 10 yr/100K Service Agreement, Tire/Wheel/Glass/Interior/Carpet/Paint Protection-Warranty ($50 Deductible). Same as my FJ (when I bought it in ’08 and still going strong at 59K miles) and I use the hell out that Warranty and Service Package.
Lastly; if I decide to start modding my Pro, as long as I’m within the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act boundaries then the Dealer will have to honor the Warranty and Service Agreement. I went through this with my ’08 FJ and won every single battle when they tried to deny service on CV’s, 3rd Member Seals, Transfer Case, Pulleys, Drive-Shaft and doors (I have 4” of lift on adjustable ICON Stage 6.)
Stop hating, just ‘cause we have better looking T4R’s than you now…Go back to the kitchen and put on your apron….your biscuits are a burnin.:whip:

Actually, it was discovered that the prototype shocks ended up being different from the ones that eventually made it onto the TRD Pro and only have 2 notches. They cannot be raised to the same height as the prototype models. Pretty much everyone paid a buttload for a model that is only 0.5-1" taller in the front than a stock TE.

As far as my man card....well....my wife can vouch for that lol.
Look no hating is going on. Toyota made a huge error and people fell for it is all. Life goes on. As a matter of fact many people are saying the TRD is the ugliest model. I disagree though.

You guys...
Just remember everyone who buys a 4Runner and posts here thinks that what they bought is the best. Let me repeat that: Everyone who buys a 4Runner and posts here thinks that what they bought is the best.
The TEP crowd, the LE crowd and your TRDP crowd. Us SR5P guys do too.
Why? Who knows. You guys have a TE with a a different suspension, wheels and a different front end. Guess what - The LE guys have that too with a different drivetrain!
The truth is none are better or worse than the other and looks are subjective as nobody will ever agree on the the looks.
Enjoy the TRDPro because I am really liking my SR5P (after having a TEP) and I'm sure the LE guys love theirs too. Anybody who knows anything about off road knows that the driver is what matters the most. We could take the baddest, most capable 4Runner that's been modded here and a pro driver in a stock Subaru Outback would clean our clocks in all conditions. I have always said skids are for people who can't pick the correct line...
I am sure people are happy with the model they purchased, as I am with mine. What I don't get is why they have to come in threads like these and tell us why our model sucks.
Because people suck plain and simple.
