4runner TRD Pro

Because you really need side mirror signal indicators...in the desert?

Also removing the sunroof makes the vehicle structurally more rigid and lighter.

What does driving in the desert have to do with anything? My point was that the TRDP is more based off a base TE rather than TEP as you said. If it was based off a TEP it would have a sunroof and the side blinkers. That is all I said. Whether or not you think those extra features are worth it or needed is another debate.

As far as removing the sunroof making it lighter and structurally more rigid. How many SUVs have you seen bend a body or frame because it had a sunroof on it? It's also a little ironic you mention that it adds weight when people throw on heavy LT rated tires, roof racks, front and rear bumpers, sliders, skids, etc etc. I'd say the added weight of a sunroof is pretty much negligible when people are adding all this other heavy gear to their trucks.

Most of those additions are UTILITIES. A sun roof is a neat luxury at best.

And no it's not worth the debate, just like all the other dumb debates that come up in this particular thread.

For what it's worth, I thought the TRDP design was specific for Baja/dessert racing based on some of the original Toyota marketing material. The original sales guy also echoed this to my wife which slowed down the sales process as she was more concerned with car seats, etc.

I wasn't planning to join a forum or modify the vehicle in anyway when I bought mine. I saw some ads and my jaw dropped. I don't remember if it was the wheels of the grill that sold me. I got lucky with $2K off sticker due to an error in Internet advertising that I held the dealer to. Thought they were going to turn around and stick it to me on my trade it, but got within $500.

When I originally was looking at it the dealer in Charleston told me no GPS came with it and that "in the desert you don't need GPS." I ended up going to another dealer (see internet pricing story above, went to North Charleston). Couldn't help but pull up to the original dealership and show the sales douche all the features it had.

All in all I am extremely happy with my vehicle. So far I've seen one other in town with Ohio plates and we exchanged awkward waves at a light. I get more excited when I see any 4R with mods (bull bars, roof racks, etc.). Those are the guys I am eager to talk to.

My opinion is, if you plan to keep it stock, the TRDP is the best looking stock vehicle. If you plan to replace the suspension and move to a black wheel, then go with a TE or TEP. I would have been happy with either. My only personal requirement was the manual shift transfer case which is why I started looking at the 4Runner to begin with.

These forums have the same hyperbole and paper thin skinned personalities that sports, fishing, and other hobby forums have. The difference is this place is always worth reading because the advice is awesome.

Cheers!

Now that, that is a response.

And this is exactly the kind of statement that gets us non-Pro owners belligerent. Your Pro body parts fit precisely 2 model years so far (14-15, 16 to come). This generation of 4Runner has been in production since 2010 for those who haven't bothered to check. Convince me you have even seen 1/2 of the pictures posted in the 5th Gen forum, much less that half of them have Pro parts on them. I'm guessing closer to 1/2 of 1 percent, maybe.

FWIW I don't hate the Pro. I think it's a nice looking ride but still would have opted for a Trail because of what I had planned for mods. But comments like this really have a way of pushing some peoples buttons, and you wonder why there is hate?

Ah relax man , I bought it for my wife as a cheap winter commuter .

I have been considering front and rear bumpers from shrockworks. I really do not want to have to upgrade / mess with the suspension just yet. I went with the TRD to some large extent because I figured I'd be happy with the suspension at least through the warranty. Do you guys think or know if I will have a weight problem on the stock suspension with front and rear bumpers? I do load the truck down pretty well, not terrible, and do a lot of sand driving. Most of the trucks I see on here with front and rears seem to have suspensions built up well beyond stock so I am just trying to figure this out.

Thanks all!
I have their front and rear bumpers, complete with winch and rear tire carrier. I am running stock suspension and have had no issues at all

While getting mine serviced today, the sales manager told me that Toyota has not allowed dealers to take deposits until the TRDP has been allocated to the dealer. Last year that wasn't the case. They said that the TRDP will be even harder to get in 2016. I'll take it with a grain of salt.

That is what my local dealer in Austin told me as well. I went in end of August to order a white 2016 and was told they could not even take my money until they knew how many and when they would get them. Two days later they called back and said they were allocated a quicksand first then a white one. I went back and gave them a $500 deposit on the white one and told them what options I wanted. Made them put that in writing the pricing and options. They told me it should be in late October to early November. He was really pushing me on the quicksand but I have no interest.

anybody bought the new quicksand TRD Pro yet?

Not bought but I just drove by one at my local dealer, who NEVER gets 4wd 4runners. Nice looking rig. $43,756.

Toytec spacers. I am in the process of adding an ICON stage 7

So what are your impressions of running all that weight on stock suspension? Appreciable differences in acceleration, braking, handling? Do you feel like you are running a constantly loaded/compressed suspension (for lack of better terms)? Any drawbacks from shifting so much weight to the rear with the tire? Just interested in your general thoughts on it since you have been running that set up.
