4runner TRD Pro

Anyone in Edmonton, AB Canada? I put a deposit on a 2017 Cement Grey. I was told I'm 3rd in line and the dealership has no idea when they'll be getting any! so frustrating.

Does anyone know how they prioritize the delivery order? Is it by dealer or by individual order?

Anyone share their order date, date they found out delivery date, and then delivery date? Might be good to get a feel for timeframes.

I ordered my TRD PRO when Toyota opened for orders -- if I recall correctly in October. I got my vin #/build profile December 29. It was released for freight on January 27 so I probably will get it next week as it arrived in Portland, OR and I'm in Seattle.

Got on a waiting list in October. Got a call just before Christmas that one was at the port in Southern Cal and I should have it 1st week in January. Got a copy of the invoice Emailed to me that day. Then they keept pushing the delivery date back. Finally arrived January 20th.

Followed your instructions and Toyota stated they cannot assist with anything that involves the sales or ordering process of vehicles.

Same with me. I called and they said it is a dealer thing and they have no insight into it. They put me on hold and transferred me to "tier 2" support just to tell me that.

Well this is going to be interesting.. The suspense is killing me.
I attached a few screenshots from the USA and Canada web sites.
They sure make it sound like standard equipment on the Canada models.
Photos and website text all imply sunroof on every model.

I saw this too. Yea my dealer said it won't have it but who knows. I wouldn't back out of it if it did have it, just have to be prepared to fixed/replace when it seizes up or starts leaking. I was disappointed to see they haven't switched to a different mechanism. The one on the 16 is identical to what I have on my 07. I suppose we'll find out soon!

Just got a picture from the dealership showing PRO with a sunroof in real life... He didn't say if it's mine or someone else's, but that's promising... Sounds like it's true. Funny thing is - the dealer didn't even know this detail until I pointed out the website info. Everyone automatically thinks pro = no sunroof, which was always true until now.

They've landed?

I'm in the same boat. Email from dealer today....expect it by next week. Mine was built 12/20. Probably came on the same boat. Which dealer did you go with?

Encouraging to me

Got my order in as soon as online build function became available in early DEC

Typically the dealerships are allocated certain numbers of vehicles. When they receive the allocation from Toyota they are given all the specifics of the vehicle except the vin#. The new car manager tries to match the color and options your looking for. Sometimes they get a perfect match and sometime the order may have more or less of the options your looking for. The one thing they try to get right is the color.

I think a week prior to the vehicle getting shipped from Japan, Toyota sends them a vin#. At this point they can track it till it arrives at port. In the west coast the port is in Long Beach, Ca. I don't know where the other ports are. As soon as it lands to port it goes through customs and gets scheduled for delivery. Typically it takes them a week to get it through and delivered at the dealership. Once it arrives at the dealership it takes the dealership a day or less to get it through PDI (pre delivery inspection). Your salesman then gets it gas and detailed for you to take delivery.

I hope this clarifies the process. Be patient it's all worth it in the end.

My truck may have also been on that shipment. Dealer said it was due in port today in Los Angeles. He said expect a few weeks from now for it to arrive at the lot here in New Mexico. Waiting...........

Was wondering about that. So the dealership had sent me a spec sheet with everything BUT a VIN number. Then another dealership had sent me a spec sheet WITH a VIN number. The one with a VIN number said the truck was 2 weeks out while the one without said 5-6 weeks out. This lines up with what you are saying.

When did you guys get your VIN? My sales guy said my truck just populated in the pipeline. Estimated arrival date is 3/26. He said it doen't have a VIN yet, but I thought some guys were getting VINs prior to the truck shipping.

Ok, new question. I just checked with my dealer this morning and he went from being highly confident that he could get me a TRD Pro to saying my chances were 50/50 now. I asked him why he couldn't just put in an order directly from Toyota, and he told me that there may not be anymore allocated for Gulf States Toyota this year and that he's waiting on distribution to let him know whether they can even get one. I asked him if that was just for his dealership and he told me that any dealership in the Gulf States region would have the same issue. So, is this dealership shooting me straight? Or should I order through a new dealer? I've bought multiple vehicles over the years from this particular dealership but this is the first time I've had to special order a vehicle so I don't know whether this is normal or not. BTW I'm looking for a Super White TRD Pro that isn't already spoken for if anyone has a line on one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've been told each region is dealt with differently in the allocation process. A small dealership here in California told me a dealer in the Denver region told him they can actually order these vehicles. A few days ago I contacted a dealer in this region and they told me they have sold one of the six allocated to them for the year.

My experience:

I decided I wanted the TRDP in late November and started calling around to dealers in hopes of getting one ordered. The first 3 places I was working with didn't know if they were getting them, didn't seem to know how to get them and focused on trying to get me to buy something on the lot.

I then went to my local dealer (don't know why I didn't talk to them first) and inquired about ordering the vehicle. They talked about the vehicle, the ordering process, the allocation process and what they would do to try and get the vehicle. Their sales manager was willing to offer up some of their other allocations as trade bait in order to get the vehicle.

For the rest of December and most of January they kept trying to get an allocation, but it just wasn't happening as they aren't a large enough dealer.

So in mid-January I started calling around to some of the larger dealers in the states around me based on information from one of the guys on this site. All but one dealership had deposits on their allocations. The one out of state dealer that had an open allocation wanted a $4k non-refundable deposit which I just couldn't get past. The money wasn't a problem, but the non-refundable piece just didn't sit well with me.

I pretty much accepted that I wouldn't be able to hunt one down with any sense of certainty and to just wait and see if my dealer would be able to get one sometime during the year.

At that point a dealer 30 minutes from my house called and said they had a TRDP on the showroom floor and that the original out-of-state party backed out of the deal. Only issue was it was Red and I wanted Cement like 80% of the people on this site. I had only seen a couple of pictures of what the red looked like and I wasn't 100% sold on it. So, I gave them a deposit and said I would come look at it and test drive the vehicle. Seeing it up close and driving it sealed the deal for me and I left with it that day.

My local dealer happily gave back my deposit and apologized profusely for not being able to get the car. I thanked them and said no hard feelings as they were really professional about the whole thing and communication was great! Told them I'll be getting my services done there and I would still recommend them as I know how hard it is for dealers to get this car.

I'd say to all those still looking is get your name out there with as many dealers as you can and maybe you'll luck out and find the truck you want. Chances are some dealer is going to get a vehicle at some point during the year w/o a buyer and it will be sitting there on the floor waiting for someone to scoop it up.:reddance:

Thanks. Right after I posted, another salesman at the same dealership told me they would order my TRD Pro today and that it would be in the April allocation for delivery in either May or June. I went ahead and told them to place the order, but I still maybe open to other White TRD Pros that are out there and haven't yet been sold. Either way, hopefully I'll have one by June at the latest.
