4th gen- For all who've done the FJ swap....

Here's a one of a kind front end only Fj swap...

Its an adjustable Pro Comp drop bracket, modified to fit a fourth gen (05 limited V8). Max allowable lift is seven inches, I currently have it set to just over 4 inches, need alot more work and bigger tires before I can go to 6".

Current wheel well height is 43.5 inches off the ground (sittin on 35's).

Do you have some more pictures and an explanation of what you had to modify. I am considering making one of my 4th gens a big old lifted truck for cruising not wheeling.

Ok, so I have a question on the FJ swap and what you guys would recommend. I just recently picked up a set of front and rear FJ strut and coils to put on my t4r. I was curious if anyone has put on all FJ suspension with the daystar 1.5/2.5 and what the net lift should be for a 2004 4x4 v6 Limited?

Also, what is the max size of tire (or recommended size of tire) I should get with this set up? I also have spidertrax wheel spacers to put on in addition.

How much did you purchase this set for?

Sorry for the delay in responce, didnt notice the question till last night...

Anyhow, the biggest part was getting the rear supports from the bracket to the crossmember, this required fabricating a small bracket and some welding to make it work:

fe10.jpg

The rest of the problems were all minor but where none the less a pain in the butt. Forward crossmember bolt holes were slightly off, getting the upper coil mounts to fit perfectly were difficult to say the least and then once tested they required removal (entire front end disasembled) and rubber "washers" were installed to limit longitudinal movement of the shock as it was thumping and clunking around. Also a bar is inserted into the forward crossmember to strength'n where the bracket bolts to it - that was not nice to get in and required more welding to fix up the hole we made. There were times where all we could do was walk away and have a beer. I never concidered it to be impossible, just very difficult as it felt like nothing really went smoothly and evrything took more work then you would have thought needed. We spent just over a week on the front end alone and even more time on the rear end. The easiest and most fun part was grinding down the axle while mildly drunk.

Oh, and we try'd to fit a tacoma kit first but it was off on the width, however the rear supports were almost perfect, so a combination of the two kits would have complimented each other very well.

If you are looking to do this for driving purposes I would say that the truck handles very well on the front end, but my rear end is pretty sloppy with my Bilsetin angles and the super flex leafs... so I woudn't recommend that for you.

This pertains to the 2011 & 2012 FJ coils and likely any others color coded the same:

I measured both front coils with a digital caliper (removed coils from the front shocks) the taller one is Purple/Grey, so it's the driver's side---the Purple/Orange one is the passenger

The driver's side very "top" coil is also much thicker than the passenger side last coil on top---top is being referred to as the coil end that is rounded, not the pointed or flat end of the coil

I made several phone calls today and researched this like crazy as well...everything shows that the UCA's from an FJ are also a direct swap for our Runners, not beefier or better just an OEM direct swap

I will be changing mine as soon as my rear coils come in a few days. I am installing the FJ UCA's, front/rear coils and shocks and will likely install new sway bar bushings too. Will update after everything is done.

"Anyone know if one rear coil is longer or firmer for the driver's side like the fronts are? Both have the same color codes, but I have not received them yet to measure them.

Sounds like you have different color springs than everyone else. All that I have seen on here were green and yellow for the drivers side and green and grey/purple for the passengers side. Maybe they changed colors in 2010 or you have some odd springs..

Edit-just saw where you said it pertained to 2011 and 2012 springs.

Hey guys, I'm out and about and am on tapatalk, so I can't search, but my friend has FJ shocks (Bilstein front and rear) (no coils though :( ) that he took off his FJ. My non-XREAS shocks are needing replacement. Do you know if they would fit on my 4Runner? I'm trying to find out the model/part number but was curious if it was even worth pursuing. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: never mind, calikev helped me out over PM. Thanks again, calikev!

well ive already removed my mud flaps and pushed my front liners in.

At 4"lift and 285/70/17 Duratracs, I had to trim the front bumper and the area behind the mudflap as well. Haven't been off road since, but I think that I finally got rid of all rubbing. Depending on the tire, you may have to be a little more aggressive, but definitely possible. With a less aggressive AT tire, you'd get by with less trimming also.

FJ Swap

Can someone explain how I got so much lift???

Did the no spring compressor replacement yesterday.
2008 2WD SR5 V6
1/4" Toyotec Spacers
5100 Bilstiens set at .85"
NEW 2011 FJ 4WD springs
Front Only

BEFORE LF 32.75 RF 33.0
AFTER LF 36.5 RF 36.75

Almost 4 Inches of Lift. I was expecting 2.0.

I haven't done the back yet.

I would have expected less lift as well. Have you driven it at all? Normally it does sit high but settles after driving a little. Another possibility is the lower mount was installed upside down, I've seen this happen before. Can you post a pic of the installed shock, mainly the lower mount for the coil?

Coil isn't installed here, but the lower mount should be as pictured.

AFTER it settled...I got about 2" of lift in the front and a little less than 1/2" in the back when I did my 07 V8 2WD. Immediately after the install it was about an inch higher, but settled nicely.

I put on all 4 TRD shocks & coils from a new FJ. It will settle about 1/2-3/4" most likely as ARK said.

You must have the V6 engine for it to get that much higher right? (Less weigh than the V8) and your coils must be fairly new as well right?

Yes my coils came off an FJ with less than 100 miles on it. My bottom bracket is installed as shown above. I'll get a pic out soon. I have driven about 100 miles. It hasn't settled at all. Yes, It's a V6.
