4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Help

I have a 2005 4Runner. I currently have a 3in ready lift spacer in the front and 2in in the back as well as a 1" bolstering body lift. With this set up I scrubbed the cab mounts with 275/60/20 and my 20x10 -24. I plan the add a 4" maxtrac spindle lift and 2.5" rear coils. Can anyone tell me if I would rub with 295/60/20s and 20x12 -44. Thanks

Hey guys. I have a 07 runner with bilstein 5100 on all corners fully extended, icon uca and 285/70/17 nittos. Now I recently purchased a pro comp lift 3/2 since my tires were rubbing even after a slight trim and later on I may plan on going a little bigger on the tires. Now to the question. Could I keep the bilsteins fully extended with that lift being put on top of it? If not how far down would I need to go.

So can I put 3" spacer lift without disabling my XREAS? Or without any hazards? And when I install the spacers, there will be no problem disconnecting the front coilovers from their XREAS hydronic tubes?

You cannot put a spacer above Bilsteins! Unless you are 2wd that is. The reason is, the Bilsteins are very long. Longer than any of the extended travel coilovers in fact. You'll Hyper-extend your cv's destroying them, as well as tie rods and potentially balljoints. You may be able to get away with a .5" block, which gives you 1" lift, but it'll be close. With that lift you should easily clear those tires with a little trimming as long as your rim offset isn't redonkulous.

Yes you can. You don't need to disconnect anything on the XREAS system. Take the 3 nuts off the upper strut mount, disconnect the upper balljoint, jack up the front of your truck letting the suspension drop. You should then be able to pull the strut out at the top, put the spacer on, and slid it back into place.
You may need to disconnect the sway bar, and you need to watch that you don't over extend the brake lines and abs wires.

It's a 2wd and the offset is -12

Does everyone agree that I can put a 3" spacer lift on a 2008 4x4 v8 that has XREAS without any problems?

In looking at upgrading from my current setup (2004, currently running a sonoran steel lift kit, which is bilstein 5100’s with TRD coils in front and radflow coils in back) I'm trying to figure out what is 'good enough' for my needs.

I'm attempting to continue compensating for all the weight on the vehicle (which seems to keep growing), as well as deal with my intended upgrade from 285/70r17 to 35s.

So when I look at something like the Icon 58745C it looks great, but do I actually need that?

Would something sort of half way, like these Fox shocks meet my needs?

How can I figure out what my requirements actually are in terms of needed suspension (and coil rates)?

I've really only been looking at Fox and Icon (King doesn't seem to have anything for my model), but are there other options I should consider?

Are there questions I should be asking that I'm not?

What are you running that you feel you need to go to something different than the 5100's? I'm looking to add sliders, skids and a front bumper and winch and I'm worried I'll be running into similar issues.

The issue is mainly going up to 35s. Everything else is performing well on 5100s, though they're likely to be the one thing the breaks as I'm playing around with small rocks (this is never going to be a rig that deals with big rocks).

I don't see myself going over 33's. I just clicked through the thread where you purchased your truck, looks exactly like what I'd like my build to end up as. Everything felt and performed well with bumpers, RTT and the works?

It's been great overall. I'd not want to discourage you from going that route, but do note that bilsteins are entry level. Not a bad option, and most people probably won't outgrow them, but if you think you might, then maybe consider something more substantial so that you don't have to replace them.

That said, I've struggled a little over a few obstacles, and felt things hit my armor a bit more than I like. Another inch or two plus easier obstacle clearance is what I'm looking for, and moving to 35s is going to put a lot more stress on your suspension, so I need to upgrade.

Still, if I weren't playing around in the SoCal desert where there are all these lovely rocks I probably wouldn't worry so much.

Lower Control Arm angle after Toytec 3" lift

I noticed my front lower control arm angle changed after my lift. The joint looks like it's pushed out towards the wheel and no longer flat like it use to be before the lift. Does anyone know if this is normal or what can be done to fix this??

Uhm, you lifted the truck. Hence, you changed the angles of the suspension components.

I'm not questioning that. I'm just asking if everyone else has the same angle on their LCA's and if it's a concern. I don't mind replacing a part if needed to correct the issue.

Ohhhh gotcha! I was interpreting that as why is this angle different? Lol. It looks about normal. How much lift did you put on?

3" Bilstein/Toytec.
Here's a pic before the lift.

Didn't get any hits on post #2200, I'll add some info. Again, any info would be highly appreciated.

Looking to see if I can run 275/70R18's on my 07 V8 Limited. Bilsteins Front and rear. Front is set to max 2.5, Moog 81088 coils (had a hard time getting my hands on Front OEM FJ springs) spc uca, Rear Springs from a FJ + air lift 1000 and 1.5'' Daystar spacer. Currently running stock 265/60r18's. Current dimensions: Front- ground to fender 36 5/8'', top of tire to fender 7 1/2". Rear- 37 3/8 ground to fender, 8" top of tire to the fender. Would any modifications need to be done to fit 275/70's and if so which ones?
