This is a total BS - x-ray cannot discern soft-tissue tears or damages. x-ray is generally good except for diagnosing soft-tissue problems or acute stroke related issues. If you want accurate assessment then you have to get an MRI. Perhaps, you are not seeing a competent medical doctor. NY got some really good medical centers.
What are you talking about when you say "preload?"

He is referring to the bearing preload on the sector shaft that the pitman arm is attached to. The issue here is that if it was too tight from the factory, the bearing could be damaged anyway and if that was the case, they would need replacement.
This is done (adjustment) with worn boxes or after a rebuild. BUT the box is not the only part of the equation in the end. You could be backing off preload and have not enough tension on the bearings and it will wreak the box. You have other links in the system that is there was a bind, it could be else where.
My issue here with this is...the guy stating the throttle peddle is stiff too. It's electronic, no mechanical linkage whatsoever. THAT statement tells me...it's him not his Runner. Now if he test drove another runner and said it was his Runner, I'd digest this more but I'm not.

Not sure if serious? 4runner has a rack and pinion and there is no adjustment without completely removing the rack.He is referring to the bearing preload on the sector shaft that the pitman arm is attached to. So let me propose this. Could it be the seating position for all your issues? If the seating puts pressure on you for the peddle (and yes, you are correct there is a spring but you know what I meant) could it also cause your arm issues?
Have you owned trucks before? Are you familiar they do offer a bit different seating pattern due to the body on frame construction compared to cars and the sub framed suvs you are referring to?
Driver another. Hope it's an easy fix but you might try another dealer.
I don't find mine to be difficult at all. It has the perfect amount of resistance for a truck. My 07 Ram with 36" tires is sloppy compared.
I am going to try another dealer this week. I am also going to have my local mechanic back off the preload another 5 degrees regardless. Its either that or trade it in, sell it and take a loss or complain until the 6th gen comes out. LOL. Thanks for replies.
This thread lost me at the sissy man that thinks 5th gen steering is too much work. Yet I grew up with manual steering and my sissy ass arms never complained back then.
Might I suggest these.

Your out of line. Might I suggest you come here and drive my 4R for yourself. Open invitation. Dinner is on me. Tough guy.
I was able to "throw" the steering wheel to make the fast turn. Ironically, this 2016 T4r Trail is totally the opposite. In order to make a right turn, I have to push up on the steering wheel with my left arm and pull down with my right arm. I wasnt even able to make a turn using a finger or 2 at the corner of the horn and the wheel without it bending my fngers back.
I was actually waiting for these kinds of responses. LOL. Nice one!
