5th Gen Wheel & Tire Thread

2017 TRD ORP
3” OME lift
2884 friont coils
2889 rear coils
SPC upper control arms @ +2 deg caster
SCS Ray10 17x9, 3.5” bs, -38 offset
BFG KO2 285/70/17

Wheels are SCS Ray 10 in matte gunmetal. These are the 17x9, 3.5” backspacing, -38 offset. Its comparable to running their 17x8.5 -10 WITH a 1.3” spacer. I had to remove the mudflaps and do a very aggressive BMC(thanks SSO), and I opted to do a conservative high clearance type cut on front bumper and well liners. No rubbing on or offroad after BMC.

...also look good in the North Georgia Clay color combo...

Update: I switched out the KO2s for KM3s. I got about 80000 miles on the KO2s. They still looked fine, but had gotten a but dicey at highway speeds in the rain.

285/70 KM3 - same size as KO2s I had run but the side lugs make them “appear” much wider. I started getting some grabbing on the rear of front fender liner at full lock during hard stops and had to move the liner back with a heat gun.

Also swapped rear springs to OME 2898(440lb additional constant load) after mounting an ultraswing and full size spare. There was already a 50ltr dometic fridge, about 70lbs recovery gear/tools, and the 3/4” birch floor plate I installed for the fridge slide.

I had new Falken Wildpeak SL AT3W’s in 285-70-17 installed on Saturday. I replaced my 275-70-17’s. I had a 1.5/1” spacer lift on my Pro prior to the 285’s and everything seems to clear even with minor articulation.

I so love your look. I just ordered the five 17 X 8.5 Ray 10s with -10 offset. Currently running the stock 'trail' wheels with 1" Bora spacers with 285/70R17s. Had to do minor trimming in the front and I get slight front mudflaps rubbing sometimes when braking hard with the wheels turned. I was planning on ditching the spacers when the new wheels arrive, but I love the way this looks. I might just hold onto the spacers and reinstall them later after new UCAs are bought and a BMC are done.

Here are some updated picks of my Enkei ST6 20 x 9.5 ET10 with some spidertrax 1.25 inch spacer and no lift.
I have no rubbing issue in the back.
In the front I had to remove the mud flap and push the fender liner forward.
There is a small piece where i am still rubbing where the mud flap used to bolt on, which I would probably need to trim, but I will also look at the possibility of being able to push it back with a zip tie
The weird thing it rubs only when in reverse on full lock. anyway here are some picks.

Do you guys think it is too aggressive or looks good? I was going to go with 1" spacers in the front and probably would had no rubbing but the company stopped making them, so I just went with the spidertrax spacers

I think your rig looks great! My previous limited looks really similar to yours but in a different color on the enkei blackhawk wheel. I like the way they sit without the spacer TBH but its only a personal taste.

Hey, cool thread!

2020 TRD w/KDSS
Stock TRD 17" Wheels
33" 255/80 BFG KM2's (E-rated)
3" lift/leveling kit: Toytec spacer + ICON 2" Rear Coil Springs
No BMC/mods

There is a VERY slight rub when turning at a sharp angle during articulation. I've checked it a number of times and there's zero damage to either rubber or wheel well so I keep on truckin' and don't pay it much thought.

With the E-rating, in place of the spare tire I rock a 14 gallon water tank and carry a tire patch/repair kit. If the shit absolutely hits the fan, I'll hike out and pay the $500 tow fee.

I'm trading in my Taco for a 2020 4Runner. I am trying to see if I can just put my wheels/tires on the new 4Runner or do I absolutely need a suspension lift first? It would only be for pavement/mall crawling for the time being.

The specs are 16 Ray 10s 8x6 with Discoverer 285 75 r16s.

For reference, my Taco is a 3rd gen and has a FOX suspension 3" lift on it and BMC.

I would assume this would be the case, I'm just finding mixed answers. Some say its possible, others don't. The suspension lift will be the first upgrade.

I don’t believe 16” wheels would clear the brakes on the 4Runner. You would need 17” at minimum.

I won't need new lugs for Method 701s correct? Factory ones with the lock should work...right?

You will need new lug nuts. Any aftermarket wheels will require conical seat lug nuts. Only the oem trd wheels use the oem flat / washer style lugcentric nut.

Has anybody installed Black Rhino Rumbles? I tried searching the forum, but all the threads with “rumble” seem to have to do sounds the car makes when something goes wrong.

I’m considering these @ 17x8.5 or saving money and buying Level 8 MK6s. The Rumbles are only 22lbs, so 6-7lbs lighter than the MK6s, and they cost less and are more available than FN Wheels Six-Shooters (my third consideration).

I’m wondering if they are in the Goldilocks zone of budget/weight/quality/availability, or if I might be overlooking something? I haven’t seen anyone on here with these yet. Here is a pic from the BR website:

17x8.5 Vision Manx 398 with TRD Center Caps 265-70-17 BFG KO2’s load range C

Hello JedDawg,
Your setup is EXACTLY what I am considering for my wifes white '16 4Runner Trail & my Silver '15 Tacoma DCSB TRD O/R. I have a few questions if you don't mind.

Do you have a part # for those TRD center caps?

Were the wheels easy to balance?

I assume the bead ring is integrated into the wheel or is it removable/replaceable like the 16" Tacoma TRD simulated Beadlock wheels?

Do you have any profile pics of your truck with these wheels?

Do they sit flush with the fenders or do they "stick out" a bit?

Did you have to get new lug nuts or the OE shank style work with these wheels?

Are the studs long enough for thread engagement?

Thank you.

New owner here. I'd like to get some aftermarket wheels, since the stock TRD OR wheels are bit shiny for my taste, but I'd like to:

1. No rubbing on or off road.
2. Avoid any trimming/cutting/etc.

The more I read, it seems like almost anything wider than stock requires some trimming even with a 265/70/17 AT tire.

Are there any other options than the stock TRD PRO wheels? I believe they're 17x7 +6.

I was eyeing the DakarZero 17x8 +0 or 17x8 +20, but I fear the +0 would require some trimming and the +20 would have some kind of inner suspension interference.

Would appreciate any feedback!

Anyone running alphaequipt wheels?

Just got a Toytec aluma series lift and KO2 285s with SPC UCA and looking to get that brand of wheel. Anyone with that wheel?

So I'm hearing that Good Year DuraTracs will rub on a stock TRD Pro with stock TRD rims and 265/70/17? Can anyone confirm this for sure?

I'm considering a move up from stock to either 275/70 r 17s or 285/70 r 17s. Were there performance issues that drove your size up? I'm really leaning heavily towards the 275s (for weight and mpg considerations). Also, the most i plan on doing is light off-roading, not rock-crawling. It looks like upsizing to 33" tires is the prevailing move, but I haven't seen a compelling argument other than "bigger is better" and it looks good.

Would love to hear your perspective after having run both size tires. Thanks!
