Question: Am I wrong to be a bit peeved by Wheelers Offroad?

Two weeks ago I ordered 4 rebuild kits for
my Icon Coilovers and shocks. 2 for non reservoirs, 2 for reservoirs.

I noticed they charged my card WAY more than they quoted me, so gave them a call. They had shipped 4 non reservoir kits. No big deal, they said when they got to me, just put return to sender and send it back. They'd have ICON drop ship the right package to me.

Got the wrong package, wrote return to sender, dropped it in the mail the next day (last Wednesday). Been waiting patiently for the package from ICON, and not seeing it, so I gave Wheelers a call.

My package (the wrong one) got back to them on Wednesday (this week) and so they just put the order in to ICON yesterday.

So now, exactly two weeks later, my simple order has shipped. Maybe.

4xInnovations Sliders Installed

When my brother in-law was welding up my rear shock mounts awhile back I had mentioned I had these sliders sitting in my garage that I had purchased over a year ago. He told me next time I was coming to town, to bring them down.

Well, I brought them down last weekend and we got started on a bottle of Glenmorangie, and some welding. Him welding, me drinking. Mostly.

I'll toss a couple photos at the end... Please don't zoom in and look at how badly I need to buff this thing =p

I went with the HREW 4xInnovation sliders with kickout for two reasons. Price, and I don't care how big of a rock I can drive over, so I didn't think DOM was necessary. If I were to do it again, I'd probably go with a brand that sells them pre-assembled as I can imagine that if my labor wasn't free, it would have been a bit spendy welding up all the legs and what not. But for the price, and free labor, cannot be beat.

For the slider placement we went with the typical 20 degree upward angle. I think this looks very nice and allows for the slider to be placed very tight up under the body. Mine, however, were a bit too tight (I left a little under 1/2" between body and slider) so I may need to start thinking of ordering a 1/2" body lift since I gave mine away. Occasionally I THINK I can hear the slider bumping the body when I go over a quick series of jarring bumps.

I think my armor needs are done for now though... which is nice. And I think they look pretty sweet. :thumb3:

No worries man. I have less than a 1/4" gap between my sliders and the pinch weld. No rubbing issues at all. You won't have an contact

That's good to hear. I ground my pinch weld down a bit the full length of it to get a bit more than I had. Also trimmed the rear flares to fit a bit better.

"I'm going to keep the exterior mostly stock"

Still my favorite quote from you EVER!

Haha, right? In my defense- at that time this was COMPLETELY my intention due to financial constraints. Funny how after enlightening my wife on how much this vehicle can do for us, those constraints loosen.

Spa Day

Today my 4Runner got a much needed spa day courtesy of GSPRunner. After a summer of running trails, highways, dunes, mountains, etc, my Runner's paint was in a bad way.

A list of what was performed...
Engine Bay Cleaned/Dressed

Exterior Hand Wash
Exterior Clay
Exterior Buff
Exterior Polish
Exterior Wax

Interior wasn't bad as I am pretty anal about that stuff... Just washed the windows and door jams.

This photo is after the wash/clay. Taping off some of the plastic parts to make life easier...

After that Joe put in work with the buffer while I took photos and wiped off residue. Tough work. =p

After the buffing polishing and waxing was done I pulled it outside and took some photos of the excellent work he did.

After all of that pulled back into the shop to try and adjust his King Coilovers a bit... Noticed how good it looked in there, so took a few more pictures.

Gotta say, this has become my favorite build. Not only is it purpose-built and not overdone, it's also beautiful. Seriously, there is not a single SUV on the market that is as beautiful as a clean 3rd gen. Nice work.

I would not do a body lift for many reasons. If you do get a little contact on your sliders you can always scallop the pinch weld around the legs. I did that to mine.

Thanks a lot! I am getting very close to the point of not having anything left to do... I guess I'll have to make stuff up.

The issue with the pinchweld and my sliders is that the legs are not what's hitting, rather the long tube that they attach to. So I'd have to trim the whole thing, but I already went as far as I am comfortable.

I could drink beer and buff cars all day. Good times bro.
When I had a bigger garage that's pretty much what I did every weekend... haha I let Emily know about next weekend. Thanks again.

Looks great Alex!!!!
Thanks, Logan. See you soon.

No doubt there are certain places where they are hitting and you'll eventually know by the paint rubbed off the sliders. More than likely it will be toward the front or the rear of the slider. I would take a dremel and just ever-so-slightly remove material off the bottom of the pinch seam. You won't need to take off much as these trucks have very little body flex. I would do that WAY before ever considering a body lift.

Just my .02
