Really??
This is not good news, the only thing I can think of is maybe the SS. Was it dealer installed new, or installed later in life? Sorry didn't want to cruise through your build thread to find out.
If so maybe they changed gears because of the power upgrade, so now you know you've been running 4.30's what's next? 4.56?
The first SC was installed at time of purchase when new.
Some day I'll get 4.88's.
just curious, why did you pull your diff?
I pulled my diff because I "thought" after reading about 15 different "axle code guides" that I had 4.10's, and wanted to upgrade to 4.30's. It was free, so I thought it'd be worth a shot to see how much better my 4Runner would perform.
Basically trying to get a bit of my acceleration back that I lost when I stepped up to 285/70/17 Duratracs.
So your V6, Auto, 4wd, SR5, "Highlander"... has 4.30's in it? I'm assuming you guys counted teeth and got 43/10, right? I wonder if the original owner special ordered the rig with the higher ratio.
If I were you (or anyone for that matter), I wouldn't waste the time or money chasing a 4.10 to 4.30 swap. It might be slightly noticeable on a stock rig, but on a rig such as your own, the results would be a let down.
Yessir, has 4.30's in it. And yes, counted teeth about 17 times at a little after midnight. At first I thought it was funny, and a good learning experience. 2 hours later, while still scraping the old gasket off, I changed my my.
The only reason I was going to try the 4.30's was because they were free. Hard to be too upset about results when all it cost was a Friday night.
4.88's will be had, but probably not for quite awhile.
Also... I don't understand your bolded additions to my post. It's 2:00am... That may have something to do with it.
So my question to you is what is the code located in the door jamb? Ao3a or Ao4a?
What is this mysterious code you're asking about? Haha...
What I would give to have known that code existed.
It's AO4A, so it was installed at the factory.
I find it so strange how few people know what those codes mean. Every thread or "guide" I have EVER seen on this topic lists the "Model Code" and makes no reference to the axle code.
But again, I did learn a thing or two about pulling a diff/e-locker and also about not trusting what you read on the interwebs.
