This is very similar to how the WMW racks mount. Just by contact on the roof. It's not an issue.

I am not worried about it at all, no. Seeing how the WMW rack mounts I think this is a step or two ahead of that. I have nearly 10in^2 of surface contact on each side, the WMW has about 1...
I washed it the day before these pictures and began to clay and wax it. Started and ended on the hood. I need to polish it up again before I do all that.
The guy's name is Nate and he owns NR Fabrication in Monroe, WA. His number is 425 610 0803. He said if he were to make another rack it'd be about $700. Powdercoat (through a contact of his) ran me $150.

That's my plan if it ever starts bouncing around. However it hasn't happened yet.

What did I do to my 3rd Gen today?? I bought it! Once I have 15 posts I'll throw down a thread with pics. And I need to clean it up. I'm much less knowledgeable about 4Runners than I am about LC 80s which I own, but according to my buddy I put a "Unicorn" in my garage...a 2000 SR5 V6 5-speed with rear diff locker. Who knew?! I guess more to come soon!

Upgrade from 199 to 231 Brakes
The past couple weeks my passenger side brake caliper has been dragging off and on so I went to Autozone to replace it under warranty.
Long story short, after asking the counter jockey about upgrading to 231s and having him say no, no, no in a rather impolite manner, the visiting regional manager took over the transaction.
Let's just say that I spent very, very few dollars on the upgrade. Very few.
Install went without any hiccups other than the passenger side brake line being a huge PITA going into the caliper.
I took a picture.

Factory to 199 was a direct swap for me and required no grinding. I didn't start having issues with them until I started adding all the weight I now have. They felt almost like stock did.
The 231 took a little more work. Had to cut about 1.5" off of the dust shield on both sides, top and bottom. That said, they feel a LOT better. I regained a good amount of lost braking confidence. On a lighter 4Runner I bet they'd be sweet.

If you want to upgrade your brakes I think it best just to do the 231 upgrade from a 02-06 tundra 4x4. Yes the dust shied need to be cut but that's easy, it well worth the little extra work to have those beast up front. I love how my truck can just stop like never before

Here's what I drew up. The front mounts I just looked at BFAD's stuff and gave the fabricator a general idea, and creative freedom. I don't know what the angles are, lengths are, etc. so they're omitted from my drawing. With these materials and this design I stood all 205lbs of me in the very center of the center crossbar and it did not flex at all. I then stood on one foot and kinda bounced up and down. Still nothing. I then fell.
Also- I'm not a freaking engineer so give me a break. I'm just a dude that toys around with autocad sometimes.
To keep GOBI off my back: These drawings are just what were used for my personal rack made for me, and not for production purposes. I'd have purchased a GOBI but I didn't want my tent to sit 7 feet off the top of my 4Runner, and I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a rack.
Then I used an Inno Faring. It works really well.
