AC question

Trying to recharge system, everything works: compressor, condensor fan, ac light on on/off button, idle-up. Low side was at zero, then while trying to charge system pressure went up to about 80 which seemed to prevent refridgerant from going out of the can and into system. I certain system still has r-12. Screw on fitting. Sight glass had bubbles.
It stinks, r-12 leaked out of can because can tap is unable to keep can sealed.
I had been lucky and able to obtain a can of r-12. Hope to have r-12 ac cooling, before I maybe convert to 134.
Thanks. Vehicle description in sig.

Not really sure what your question is however if you are unable to get your system recharged with all of the usual items functioning normally, your expansion valve may be stopped up. ( an easy fix ).

Thanks 85HJ75, I am unable to recharge system with all the usual items functioning normally. Thanks for the replies. I had thought about expansion valve. How easy of a fix is it. To me, easy means removing glove-box and 'cover panels' of cooling system assembly behind glove- box and somehow remove evaporator if necessary or possible and then replace expansion valve. I could probably remove whole assembly from behind glove-box if necessary though.
Again, thanks for the replies any advice is appreciated.

The glove box removal is straight forward ( several screws ) and the expansion valve is readily accessible from that point. I changed out a bad compressor...nothing. Changed out a questionable dryer......nothing.
Changed out the expansive valve......I am now riding down the road in cool comfort.

Good to hear. Thanks for the reply. I will attempt this soon. If it looks like I can actually access and replace valve. I will be able to borrow a vacuum pump and buy a recovery tank from craigslist and vacuum out the system before I unhook the lines.
