definitely doable... you have to find the original LED wires.. DO not just cut the LED.. you have to cut each wire seperately.. otherwise you short out the LED...

it should help fend off theives...

I put my Viper blue LED into my original Security light on my 99. Looks factory, unitl I arm the alrm. Looks pretty cool.

I am a mobile electronics installer.
One of the biggest ways to scare theives is a flashing LED....
I read up on theives because I need to know what they are thinking and how to prevent them...... for my line of work.....
most theives go for easy stuff. like cd's.... and easy car radios and whatever they can see sittign in the seat. I heard one thief stole the change in the little cup thing.
Really steams my chicken that they smash a 300 dollar window or cause priceless damage to a door... to get in.. and make off with cheap stuff.....
just a tip.... don't leave nice stuff laying around.... it makes them tempted.

well im wondering if this would help protect my stereo system. everything is going to be hidden except for the two 12 in subs
i want to tint the back like 5% so its very dark and then do the led thing.
are there any other things i could do to help protect my sysyem???
btw. by first system in my 96 jeep cherokee was stolen. i was SOOOOOOO pissed. so im looking to make this one safer.
by the way, when i went to test the glass break sensor like it says in the manual for the rs alarm, it didn't go off and i was wondering where the glass break sensor unit is so i can adjust it. i know the mic is next to the e-brake but i was wondering where the unit with the adjustment is

you should relocate the mic up near the front A arm of the driver side.... who the heck put it near the e brake?!
You should get a proximity sensor. That should help
and a mini piezo siren for inside the car.
If they try to steal your stuff, might as well make them deaf.
Trace the wire from the mic back. The unit itself should be hidden under the dash.
to protect the stereo, remove the faceplate. that helps ALOT!

Do you have a cargo cover you can pull over it? a proximity sensor would help.

what happens is when you get close to the vehicle.. the alarm chirps... then you break a certain circle...then it would trigger the alarm..
I wonder how much of a deterent a removed faceplate really is. I mean, seems like it alerts a potential thief that you probably have a pretty expensive HU. And since many people just stash the faceplate somewhere in the vehicle rather than carry it with them, seems like a thief might take a chance and break your window just to see if it's in your glovebox or center console.
Seems to me the best defense against thieves is to make your setup look unattractive. I can't imagine many thieves would break into a car to steal a factory HU. So why not remove the faceplate from your old factory unit and attach it with magnets when you leave your car?
A really neat setup would be a setup where this is done automatically when the ignition is turned-off. Maybe something that automatically retracts into the little cubbyhole space below the aftermarket HU.

it warns the person parked next to you.. not to hit yours... hehehe
and to the face plate thing.... if you have a nice headunit... taking off the face plate... makes them not know what kind you have.
Now the determination is... should the thief risk the chance of smashing the window... search for the faceplate, and might end up with a pos headunit and end up coming close to being caught....

flat head screws really screw ya over.. you'd be surprised...
you can't put a drill on it and just zip it out... you have to make sure it's balanced.. and slowly do it...

Definitely true for the original factory mount but aftermarket mounts and adapters aren't necessarily as robust. For example, my cheap plastic single-DIN adapter came from Crutchfield and it attaches to the dash frame using only two screws. Even if it had more screw holes, it's flimsy enough that I suspect a thief could just break it loose rather than bother with the screws. I probably should have spent more time trying to make the OEM metal bracket work.
Does anybody make a more robust metal single-DIN adapter that fits an 06 4R?

yeah.... the new ones.... not good..... they didn't design it very well... you can use some brackets and screw it onto the side of the radio.. and then screw it to inside the dash as you put the dash back together... you have to somehow drill the cage.
(kinda my reason for getting a double din headunit)
The old 4runners .. you need to utilize the original metal brackets.. so it's too hard to remove the radio..
