Alien Gear Cloak Dock Holster Mount

Saw that. Seems like some aluminum stock and some bending and bolts will do the same thing without requiring the use of some cheap holster.

I've considered it. Honestly it looks mostly like a mounting bracket that simulates a gun belt so that it would retain just about any holster that would fit inside the bracket. It's only going to work for holsters which have the belt clip beneath the gun retaining device. That means it will work with a limited number of IWB or or OWB holsters. It doesn't look like it would work with AlienGear's CloakTuck or any similar styles (CrossBreed) where the belt clips are beside the gun retention device.

I haven't found a mount I like enough to consider for the 4Runner, so until I do, it will just stay in the holster on my belt. And I certainly won't be taking the holster on and off of the belt to put on a mount, that seems silly. Better to have a holster in the belt, and a holster mounted and just transfer the firearm.

I'd say so. They have a hard time making shells that cover the trigger well enough. The neoprene backing wears quickly also. I have one myself and I wouldn't buy anything from them again.

Just because they're popular doesn't mean they're good.

Check out Stealth Gear or Crossbreed for examples of good quality.

The alien gear dock is for their new mod-series OWB holsters. Haven't seen one in person but I bet they'd work for anything similar - likely not IWB holsters though.

I generally carry AIWB in a JM Custom Kydex holster with one of my Glocks...but if I wanted to have a firearm in the vehicle and didn't want it in the console I'd probably just put it in a Remora and wedge it in along the side of the seat.

The Remora is made of a "sticky" material that keeps it in place with very minimal tension needing to be exerted. The gap alongside the seat would be more than suitable.

I know of several folks that employ this method on a variety of firearms forums.

I have my Glock in a Safariland 6378 ALS paddle holster and wedge it under the seat to the right. It fits perfectly there and doesn't move. I carry AIWB with a smaller Glock, but the bigger Glock goes there for easier access.

That Alien gear thing looks too complicated, I like to keep it simple.

What is AIWB?
 
You people have no idea how lucky you are that you get to carry firearms (the right to defend yourself) either on your person or in your car. Don't do like what the collective here in Kalfornia have done and elect ultra liberals that hate the 2A :50cal:

ive heard bad things about the models with the neoprene before aswell.

I can only say good things about my aliengear holster though. its been great. I got one of the early models. covers the trigger well, and no crappy neoprene to wear out.

Last I checked you can still apply for a CCW in CA.... Your county Sherrif however might not like to "approve" depending on the county.

Picked mine up 2months ago to add to my collection.

Personally, I dont think its a good idea...

#1) Has anyone forgot their cell phone in their vehicle? It seems way too easy to forget that the gun is still holstered and leave it behind on accident.

#2) I have been pulled over many times by police here in AZ... and they ask if I have a gun, I tell them yes and most of the time I dont have to show them, one told me casually, "If you dont draw your gun on me, I wont draw mine on you" ... a law enforcement officer seeing a gun there so easily accessible during a routine stop might get put on edge (you never know what they might have personally experienced recently).

Now, if its hidden in the center console like that, I think that is ok... but you still have to contend with the issue of not leaving it in the vehicle.

My argument to this is you should be covering your firearm with a piece of clothing or hat if you get stopped. Just be open with the police about it. All my firearms are concealed, even if it's easily accessible I'm the vehicle. You can't see mine because it's covered by my leg. I will always carry on my person, but having an easily accessible firearm while driving doesn't hurt either.
