As to appendix carry...I've been carrying in this manner for over 30 years, most of it while I was still employed in federal law enforcement. As mentioned above, training and familiarity will go a long way toward dealing with the "concerns". (So will a good holster.) There are many advantages of AIWB but that's probably a discussion better suited for another thread (or forum).

Last I checked you can still apply for a CCW in CA.... Your county Sherrif however might not like to "approve" depending on the county.

You may want to look deeper into this.... Here is the DOJ application on the LAPD site: CCW - Carrying a Concealed Weapon Application and Policy - Los Angeles Police Department

As I understand it The Supreme Court ruleing says otherwise. That said they don't make it easy... CA as a state got there hand slapped for not issuing, and makes it hard. But it can be done, just be ready for some rings of fire, and don't even waste your time if you can't qualify. Like all counties in CA you need a letter of "good cause" training cert, lifescan ect.... If you can't pass the FBI, DOJ background don't bother with starting the other processes.

I carry AIWB in the summer with less clothes on, less printing. In the car that's not bad as I drive a bunch for work. 30K a year. I've considered mounting a second holster inside the center console but access isn't optimal for when you need it. A IWB mounted on the trans tunnel by your leg seems to be the best location if you have to have an off body holster location. This would come in handy for when you carry at 4 and don't want to deform your seat.

It really depends on how long the slide / barrel of the gun is and whether you have it directed along the crease between leg and groin.

Also, my holster has a neoprene pad on the muzzle end that cushions the holster and also forces the grip against my torso.

Many folks tolerate it well. Others not so much. It's a matter of acclimating (or not). As I mentioned above, a good holster makes a big difference.
