Almost ready for my build thread... but one last question first...

Alright,

So Ive been on the forums for a few months now. I do a lot of reading of threads, and I am sure my wife is SICK of hearing me talk about lifting OUR (she make me say our but I typically refer to it as mine) 4runner.

At the end of the month, I will be ordering my tires, and lift from toytec/ wheelers offroad. I have had some correspondence with Kevin over at ToyTec, and he has answered a lot of the questions I originally posted in the forum, but got no answer for (I think its because i posted in the suspension, tires, ect forum. I didnt want to ask it again, and just annoy you guys so I just emailed them.

Anyhow, Kevin gave me the answers I needed regarding my lift But before I order my tires, I want to ask you guys for some help determining the best option for 33's.

Seems to me that there are two options for the 33's. They come in 255/85R16, and 285/75R16. I know that the 255's are taller and skinnier, and the opposite for the 285's. Now I need to know, can i fit the 285's without wheel spacers on stock cokebottle rims? I cannot find the Grabber AT2's I want in the 255 option, and the 285's come at a cool $182 Murican Dollars.

If anyone has any insight, I will be ordering everything end of the month. Thanks guys. I cannot wait to get my build on and be even a fraction as sweet as your guys rigs.

Welcome to the forum Chris, you will have no issues mounting either of those tires on any of the factory rims that came on our trucks. You may however run into the problem of the tire making contact with the UCA with the 285 and no spacer.

Off topic but youre from Alamogordo I notice. My father in law lives out there too. Drives a white 02 ranger. Usually loaded down with a ton of survival shit and antenna's. Any chance youve seen him?! We were just talking today about how he wanted to do a diesel swap on it and toss the little 4banger hes got in it. He works out at white sands, and I notice youre stationed out there.

Also man, I love how clean your rig is. Youre actually using the bumper I am planning to put on mine as well. Where are your turn signals on it? Or are those the thing things that look like wires between the frame and the bumper? They actually emphasize that in a picture on addicted's website. I wasnt sure if those were it.

Have you thought about using aftermarket upper control arms. I have the light racing or SPC ones that Toytec sell. My 285's with factory wheels do not rub the uca's. I am also not using wheel spacers.

Thanks for the compliments on my truck, those are my turn signals that just barely show below my headlights. And yes that's my truck and my turn signal setup on AOR's website. I like it because no one else has done it and they are kinda stealthy right there unless they are on or you are looking for them.

Besides spacers or getting new wheels your only option is to get aftermarket UCAs, not a bad idea any way because they will help you get your alignment back within spec after the lift.

379+ 20 Shipping is still out of reach for me right now. I may shop around for spacers (although I really dont want them) so that after my brakes I can upgrade the UCA's after. I think thats still cheaper than putting 32's on, upgrading UCA's and then buying new tires again. Quite a bit cheaper.

After that, just check them anytime you have the wheels off. Plenty of us have and do run spacers without issue.

When i ran spacers first i had 1.25" spidertrax front and rear, then i went to a 1" setup front and rear before getting new wheels.

Side note, and maybe inappropriate, but I have tickets (my wife bought for my birthday) for me to go see A day to remember and some other bands on the 17th of Sept. in STL. Well unfortunately because Im so hard up on lifting the runner, I dont want to waste the gas, the cost of a hotel and the cost to put my kids in day care for wednesday and thursday on top of what she already spent on me. (Sounds douchey and ungrateful I know). What are the chances you wanna trade a set of your fabbed up sway links for a pair of tickets if that kind of music suits your fancy?
