Alternator output?

2012 Trail - How do I tell if I have a 100A or 130A alternator? Googled for about an hour and could not find much. There does seems to be two types of pulleys, one plain and another with a clutch. Was hoping I could tell by something simple like whether I had a 5 or 6 groove belt.

Grab a picture of the part number on the side and cross check it: (please don't mind the "professional" over spray of the undercoat hwell: guess I am the idiot for trusting someone to do a good job) My trail has the 130A

Then match too:

1 27060-31180 ALTERNATOR 4.0 LITER, 100A

Thanks. I had the part nums, but couldn't see or photograph the plate because linkage and wiring blocked my view. Couldn't even get an inspection mirror in there. I ended up resting my head on the edge of the battery, looking through a small gap in the wiring and trying on 3 different pair of reading glasses before I could focus on the part num. Got a 130Amp.

haha no doubt! LOL I wedged my phone in there and fired off a few pics until I got one that was legible.

I was surprised to see that I could actually see the tag! Don't recall on my last t4r, IIRC my old pickup had the plate on the back BUT it was a 22R so getting in there to inspect was much easier

Not sure where it was (it was here somewhere) I seem to recall someone saying that the Trail Edition comes stock with a 130a.

OK, anybody know why there are different alternators? Was it changed at a certain point in production? Was it determined by model?

Sorry no idea. It would seem logical that they (toyota) would think you will be connecting more accessories to a TE than other trims?

Different options need different amounts of current like eLocker, high end stereo, etc.

Models with the Power Inverter and dual AC outlets may have the 130

That makes sense. Although I thought all the newer trim levels had a power inverter and dual AC outlets. Is that not the case?

Not OEM.

Curious as to why you would need higher output.

I'm not an electrical engineer but what you listed above is no big deal for stock. Maybe a better or dual battery setup. Maybe.

Build your response truck. Turn on all the crap you are going to mount and see what happens. Lot of guys here are running high draw stuff with the stock setup. The key is how you MANAGE your electrical mods.
