Am i the only 4runner owner getting 11mpgs?

Im getting about 12 going 85-90 on highway.
Once i had to do just 50 mph for 45 miles, following a friend. I got like 27 mpg !
Then went to 70 mph and it went to 19 mpg. What a difference speed makes.
But i am still miffed that i dont get 400 mpg that i used to when it was new.
I was reading toyota TSB's and they say they are recommending 5w-20 synthetic for the 4runner. Which makes me think, if i change it to that oil maybe i will get more.

I thought that it was my CAI bringing down my mpg but i changed it back to stock, reset the truck and same thing, 300 mile range for full tank. wtf !?
So now I'm thinking it might be an o2 sensor or 2 or 3 or 4 but I don't have the tools for a diagnosis. There's no CEL either so not sure if it's worth it to have it checked out or buy the scanner needed.

I am thinking of buying one of those OBDII scanners from amazon. It costs like 50 bucks and comes with software that you hook up to a laptop. Will give you info on whats going on exactly inside your car.

Went from a range of 300 to a new range of 330. Back to stock intake, hit the reset button on the console before and after fill up and added red line fuel injector cleaner Amazon.com: Red Line 60103 SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner - 15 oz.: Automotive
Not back to a 380 or 400 range yet but we'll see what happens... slowly but surely...

Have you tried the fuel injection cleaning service provided by the dealer or the castrol oil change place?
I did it at 30,000 miles and i have been getting around 370 miles per tank. Considering that the fuel here is almost 10% ethanol.

I have been following this thread for a while now. I have a 2003 V8 that has been guzzling fuel like bad, the best I have seen on it is 11.4mpg. Other than that the vehicle seem stuck in L4 any attempt to put it in H4 is met with whinning and annoying endless beeps, I have followed all the advice and instructions and my case seems to be the reverse of what others have experienced (being in H4 and having difficulty engaging L4).
Lastly, I normally drive maximum of 35 mph and strange enough this will be pushing the rpm towards 1800; and I have read that people get 60mph at about 1700rpm. The vehicle runs great, I scanned it, no code in the module, I did decarbonization and cleaned the nozzles at the service center, changed the air filter. I dont know where the O2 sensors are, so I have not touched that.
Please I need help urgently before I go bankrupt because of cost of fuel.

My readout has leveled off at 19.4 and I usually calculate my actual mileage (with my iphone app 
) to be between 17.8 and 18.5 (combo city/hw). There is def. something wrong somewhere if you are getting such terrible mileage. Sorry I can't provide a solution. I can ask another question though.
I didn't read all of the posts but do you live in higher altitudes or a very undulous place in PA or drive in 4HI a lot? When I go to the mountains my mileage drops significantly and I figure its a combination of constant acceleration and being in 4HI.

Well I don't have a 4Runner (not yet, still looking) but I've been tracking the mileage on my Saturn SL for 3 years (hand calculating) and during the cold months I get about 5-7 MPG less. Over the last 35,000 miles I've averaged 33.08 MPG mostly city. Summer I usually get 35-36 and in winter I get about 27-30. If it's really cold I warm the car for about 5-10 minutes so I know that kills the gas, plus with the air being more dense at cold temps. the car runs more rich. Doesn't hurt to check out the maint. items and maybe go back to regular plugs but I know for a fact on my car the cold weather really changes my MPG's. Good luck, hopefully you can figure out what's going on without spending a ton of cash!
Out of curiosity, i bought the ELM327 scanner from Ebay. Hooked it up to the laptop and my toyota 4runner and it worked like a charm.
I am seeing so much info, some of which i cant understand. But its great to take a sample and store it as a file so i can compare months later and see what has changed internally.....

You could always post the Screenshot of the data you have, there are some tech savvy members and technicians who could help you with understanding the data.

I have a '04 4Runner SR5 2WD and I'm reliably getting 17'ish in the city and 21-22 on the highway.
I've always changed my air filter with regularity and used standard non-synthetic motor oil (with exception to the last oil change where I used a semi-synthetic blend for the first time...).
It annoys me to no end that I don't have the 4WD capability, but I inherited the car from my dad a few years ago and you can't beat free. I've always been pleased with what relatively great gas mileage I've been able to get compared to other similiar size/weight SUV's.
You can't beat the 4Runner's V6.

Well people, spring/summer has arrived, or has it?
I used to get 350 miles a tank. I usually fill up at BP,Texaco,Phillip66,Exxon or Chevron only.
This time i tried Shell after a colleague at work said thats all he uses.
Now my mileage has jumped from 350 a tank to 380 a tank. I am not sure if its shell or the summer blend has kicked in. Either way its a relief to get the extra miles !

how bout resetting the system by unplugging the battery?
from my experiance with my 4runner, the mpg's the truck stated was always roughly 2 more mpg's then when i calculated it by setting the trip after filling up, then next time you fill up divide the amount of gallons you put in by how far you went on the trip with the last tank.
with my big lift, and 33x12.5's i would get about 13mpg city and 16.5mpg highway

I use regular only. I tried premium once and the engine seemed a little rough even thought it was a bit peppy.
So i have used regular all along.
I tried another brand gas and sure enough it came back to 350 miles/tank.
Went to the same Shell station and topped it off and am getting 380 again.
I might have to try a different Shell station to see if i get the same.
I have replaced the air filter and i changed the spark plugs like 30k miles ago. I now have 60k on my truck. Just changed to Castrol Syntec as well.
