Another Bilstein 5100 question

cdiset - I think I'm going to do exactly this setup. What wheels/tires are you running? Any extra weight like skids or sliders? Can you post a picture?

GearJunkie88 I am running KO2's 265/70s. Only extras are roof rack and rock sliders installed today. I will send a pic tomorrow. Frame sits pretty level. Bigger gap in rear wheel well but a tad more level than stock.

Those are the same tires I plan to get. Looking forward to a picture so I can see what I can expect from the lift and tires. Thanks!

This has been a very helpful thread and it helped me find exactly what I wanted:

 • Bilstein 5100 on all 4 corners
 • Front set 1.75
 • Cornfed 1" spacers in back

Install and alignment by the famous RSG OffRoad in the Denver area. Here it is riding on BFG KO2 265/70/R17:

Alright everyone, I went from reading page one all the way up to page 24 and gave up. I have a question regarding the 5100s. If I were to get 5100s all the way around and choose not to do the 1" spacer in the rear, what are my options? Can I use coils instead of the spacer? If so, which ones will work? I am not looking to do a crazy lift, I wanted to do 1.75F and basically level it out with a minor lift. Please advise and thank you in advance.

you can do coils instead. I would check out Dobinson's rear springs (a lot of options and they will help you find what you need/want)

or
Wheeler's Offroad now has T13 rear coils for about 1.5" of lift

codyHTX - can you comment on the ride quality of front Bilsteins set a 1.75 with a 1" cornfed spacer in the rear? I think that is the setup you originally had before switching to springs. ??? Thanks.

Got the Bilstein 5100's front and rear installed today and an alignment fronts set at .85" no other spacers etc 265/70/17 General Grabber AT2s. The Bils firmed up the ride a little the biggest benefit is the significantly reduced nose dive when braking, it's hard to tell from the pics the truck sits closer to level with a slight nose low rake not really nose low like stock. Very happy with the result money well spent.

Fender measurements at the center of the wheel.
Before:
Drivers front, 34.25"
Drivers rear, 36.50"
Pass front, 34.50"
Pass rear, 37.00"

After:
Drivers front, 35.50"
Drivers rear, 36.50"
Pass front, 35.50"
Pass rear, 37.25"

Left pic before, Right pic after.

GearJunkie88 Here is my rig with about 250lbs in/on it. This is before I added the Shrockworks sliders but they didnt make any difference to the ride height.
This is 5100's all around, set at 1.75 in front on stock coils, and wheeler t13 coils in the back.

Why not do the spacers? The 1.75 combined with 1" spacer in back is proven to get the "minor" lift you are looking for but still have a touch of forward rake. And its inexpensive. Lots of us have done it. You want a bit of forward rake so when the rig is fully loaded you don't have reverse rake with your snout up in the air.

My understanding is you get the maximum advantage of new coils when you are going to add significant weight (bumpers, winches, RTT, etc). And for everyday driving they might be too stiff.

Incidentally, while I was getting all this done, I had the shop install an Airlift 1000 as well. Every now and then I pull a trailer, so this will keep the rear from sagging. And when I don't need it, unlike stiff coils, I can turn it "off". Another $80 is all.

it wasn't much different from stock, a little stiffer in the front and no change in the back. nothing negative to say for daily driving, but obviously didn't help support more cargo weight

Why 5100's in the front and not the 6112? I was thinking of getting some 6112's front and 5100's rear. Any downside to doing this?

Pic request please. Does anyone have the 1.75" front / 1" spacer in the back setup with 275/70/17 tires? Would love to see some pics. Thanks!

Beautiful rig, and great shot!

Thanks! It now has the extension on the roof rack, and sliders. Looks even better. My wife said we need to go test the sliders! I told her no way! Its better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them.

Forgive me for the newb question but are you saying that I can get either of those coils in place of the spacer? So in the end I should buy bilstein in each corner + the coils? If so, what would I set the front to be and what would be the overall lift?

You make a good point but for some reason I have this thought in my head that the spacer is not ideal? I can't explain why I think that but if it hasn't given anyone any problems while out on a trail then I may go this route.

Anyone have links or the part numbers for the front/rear Bilsteins and 1" Cornfed spacer? Thanks in advance.

You might have heard that serious off-roaders will not use spacer lifts. This is because the spacer can limit up-travel (a 1" spacer potentially reduces it by 1"). But keep in mind we are dealing with a minor lift here. And you are also replacing the shocks with better ones.

Will you notice a potential 1" reduction in up-travel on your rear suspension? I don't know. If you are going to do serious wheeling, then you probably want 3" lift anyway and then you are spending money on the better kits. Plus you'll want bigger (and heavier) tires.

Maybe someday I will wish I had done the full kit 3" with new UCAs, etc. But that isn't in the budget. Plus, I need to fit into the same garages, wanted less impact to MPG, and keep the stock spring rates.

Here's what I bought:

Front shocks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009FU7RL6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Rear shocks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007N6R2NM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Rear spacers: 10-16* Toyota 4Runner Cornfed Suspension Lift kits, part 5G4R-1RR

Airlift 1000: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CW6IBU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I only did the Airlift because I will pull a trailer a few times a year for a scout troop.
