Another cv boot leak thread

This is my 2006 sport. The inner boots are leaking on the right and left side. I installed a daystar 2.5" spacer lift on it in July. It seems that the leaks are not that uncommon after a lift. But i wanted you guys to look at it and tell me what you think. I may try to inject some more grease and add hose clamps.

Doesn't look bad at all. I'd regrease and re-clamp both sides. I re-clamped mine a few weeks ago and havnt had a leak since. I'm gonna regrease both sides when I have some time.

Did you use the factory style clamp?

reclamp, or just wrap em up with duct tape and regrease

Nope, hose clamps from ACE.

After I did my lift I got the same problem. The dealership was asking $600 plus for this job. I went home and did my research (a lot of threads about this) got an ordinary clamp from Autozone, and as the other member said "Dry as a bone". Problem solved.

I had the same issue. I knew I had a little leak but one day looked under and had what looked like runny grease coming out of the small end of both inner boots.

I went ahead and had a shop clean them up and repack with grease. The outer boots were not leaking at all, BUT when they pulled the outer boots, the grease ran out like water. So I had them put a whole new boot kit on. I figured if you're going in, do it right. It was about $300 with OE parts and labor, all four boots replaced, joints cleaned and new grease.

I need to tend to one of mine as well. Is there a specific grease to use or just pump it out of the cartridge?

I'm another victim after installing my lift. It seems to affect the geometry in a bad way.

any automotive grease will work, you can even mix and match if you want

Got the clamps on this morning. I didn't have time to add grease (didn't have any), but I at least stopped the bleeding.

Its not an issue related to lifting your vehicle, it seems to be a common issue with 4Runners and Tacomas. The small inboard CV Boot clamps leak or the boot tears at the clamp. Had it happen to my rig and seen it a lot at work.

Use marine style hose clamps. The ones you find at hardware stores have sharpe edges and may cut in to the boot. Here is a great wright up.

I did mine with marine clamps i got on ebay after the dealership replacements popped off after a year.

I thought I read that you were suppose to use HP90 grease?

Did you use stock clamps?

I used hose clamps I had in the shop.

I am affraid the dealership won't see it that way, and won't fix it under warranty.

A change of subject. I also have a valve cover gasket leak on the front passenger side. I did a search for "valve cover gasket leak 4.0". I went through 5 pages of threads and came up empty. Any thoughts?

I put on my Daystar kit over the weekend, and I ended up with the same problem. I was surprised, once I started searching on here, to find how many people had this issue. I don't remember ever reading about it in my research before deciding on my lift.

Anyway, I just took it to my mechanic when I had the alignment done and he charged me $3 a piece for the clamps, and half hour labor to replace them. Not too bad.

Damn, no mechanic hook up? You couldve done it yourself for under $5 and less than 10 mins. Did he use hose clamps or stock clamps?

He used stock clamps. I almost just put on some hose clamps myself, but in the quick research I did, it sounded like hose clamps may not be as good long term.
