Any way for 12v and USB outlets to have constant power?

With the vehicle turned off, none of the USB or 12V ports in the 4Runner work.

Any way to change this? I'll be installing a dual battery set up this year, and want to be able to run a fan out of the far rear 12v and phone chargers with the vehicle off.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure you've considered this but run a line directly to the house battery and add a new 12v port. Off Grid Engineering makes a kit for this or you can DIY fairly easily. I thought this was easier than rewiring existing ports

Good info. Was hoping there was an easier way, but I can always do this. Thanks

Any way to do a timed port? I recall some older vehicles I had turned off the 12v ports at 20 or 30m which was very useful.

That's the more common solution. This way you also isolate any of your added electrical systems from the factory wiring. Way easier to maintain and troubleshoot that way too.

Personally I added a second fuse block and ran all my auxiliary circuits off of that, including a new power panel in the rear controlled with a switch back there too.

^This! That's what I've done to all my vehicles. I'm part of a SAR group so on a search I run at least 2 GPS units plus other electronic equipment and I don't want all that stuff shutting down just because I've turned off the ignition.

Mount something like this out of the way somewhere.

Then mount something like this where its easily accessible. Cut off the cigarette lighter plug on the end and connect the wires directly to the fuse block. You'll have plenty of always-on power points and USB connections...just remember to switch off the power to this to keep from getting a dead battery.

You have pics and details on this??

easiest way for me to do this was run the ARB fridge wiring kit from battery to a marine socket panel (kill switch, 12 volt meter, USB, and cigarette plug).

Using the ARB fridge wiring kit made it really easy, no splicing, no guess work on fuse placement, all wiring and fuses included, etc.

Then attach whatever accessory socket panel you want to it. You can go super fancy or super simple. Again no splicing or anything.

Here is the pic of mine, but yeah all i needed was the ARB wiring kit and a panel.

I did not wanna hack into existing vehicle wiring.

I might have some...I did it when the truck was new three and a half years ago. Lots of members have done the same thing though and they probably already have it documented as well.

I can take some over the weekend and post them up.

This is awesome! This is what I want. Thanks for sharing!

This is what I did, Cig lighters and USB power all the time

Hey Turbo, can you please explain what you did here in that pic. Looks like you pulled a diode from the fuse box, what is it for and did you replace it after?....Thanks Jim

I found it online somewhere searching how to have constant power, I’ve had it for about 4 months with zero issues.

Basically built jumper from hot source to dc power circuit.

So you don't know what that blue diode is for in the top center of your picture? assumed you pulled that to use the power source for the jumper?

Am going to have to look at my manual now to see if can figure out what that is.

So this my fuse block

and this is the fuse block diagram online for 2010-2022 5th gen 4Runners
