Anyone add additional fogs underneath?

Hey folks.

I have a 2011 Sr5 w/ a Curt fron hitch deigned for a Trail (i.e., removed air dam). I mention that as it might be in the way.

I see lots of folks add light bars, replace OEM’s w/ HIDs etc.

What I’m interested in are dedicated fog lights. For slower driving on dark foggy, rainy beaches or trails. I want them low & a color other than white to cut through rain & fog and show what’s on the ground up ahead.

I’d like them to fit neat and tight under front or something similar.

Does anyone make a plug and play kit for this that fits w/ out too much customization & rigging? I have never done anything like this & honestly have no idea what I’m getting into. I just always though something like this would be helpful and assist driving safely in specific situations.

Anyone here done anything like this? Any suggestions?

May I humbly suggest the link in my sig, I've tried to collect most of the cool lighting mods that I've seen people throw on their Runners. I will say that I haven't seen anyone add additional fogs BELOW the front bumper, I think this is because most of front lighting is completely taken care of with the mounting of an LED bar in the grille, not to mention that adding fogs under the bumper (no matter how clean or tight the install) will effect your approach angle and would generally be more vulnerable to damage than an LED bar in the grille.

Thank for the input. I understand that they’ll be more voulnerable. I don’t think they’d detract much from the angle of approach more that the front hitch already does, which is fairly insignificant. If you look at the pic w/ the fish, as you can see I use my runner as a surf fishing beach buggy. I use a front cooler rack. This is why I installed a front hitch. An in grill light bar would be covered by the rack. I need lighting underneath of the rack. Like I said to see whats on the ground up a head on dark, foggy, rain beaches.

I don't like that location and don't think I've seen anyone doing the same so you may be limited to a custom mount - should not be that difficult. There are some lights such as Rigid that offer yellow covers so you can duel purpose the lights. I may have pics of them in my thread.

Just a thought...have you thought about "ditch lights" instead? You can aim them how you want and they won't get all roughed up under the vehicle.

If I were running that kind of set up, I would just mount them to the carrier and wire in a pig tail to the front of the vehicle that would be plug in power. That way you won't drag them off and by your post above would only have them mounted when you need it.

I'm with 1engineer about this one. You could probably even splice the plug into the original foglight harness under the nose so you would activate them with the same switch.

Sort of confused. Are you driving around with that cooler and rack mounted? If so, the only decent solution would be to put lights on the front of it (and have a plug), or go with roof or ditch mounts.

Thanks engineer & friends. Yes I only have rack on when on the beach & too & from. The rack rides quite high up between headlights. I thought of mounting fogs to the rack but kind of want to be able to use them even when don't have rack on. But the more I thing about it, you guys are right, they would get rubbed off. Prolly pretty easy to bolt some lights onto that rack.
Another route, I'm assuming I can modify the current fog/driving lights to be significantly brighter?

Gotcha, much clearer on the need now. As suggested above, I'd bet some of the amber duallys could work well, or maybe even a couple of the 6" Rigids. From the pics it looks like maybe you could go with a drill-in mount on either side of (bottom of) the front hitch crossmember?

I am onboard with [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] and [MENTION=105481]3wbdriver[/MENTION], but also there is the possibility of a maybe an "L" bracket made to get those lights out in front of the hitch without compromising the integrity of the hitch itself & not getting rubbed off..........

Possibly a dual setup, one set on the rack (plugged in when using the rack) and another set on the hitch (plugged in when rack is not mounted) using the same plug for each application.

That would be easy to do!

If you want to use them for fog you don't need brighter. Brighter will just reflect off of fog and be worse. Now if you want them for just driving then brighter is good. Fogs need to be low and not very bright and a wide beam that has no upward light.

I took a closer look at the front hitch. There are circular cut-outs on eaither end that may serve as a mounting position for low mounted fog lights. I don't how I attatch them there but they seem to be a good location.
What do you think, are they good locations & any ideas on how they could be attached?

That’s kind of a cool and handy set up. I like that they’re aimable. I woulder if these could work as auxillary fogs for off road? They may be too close together. I’d still need to get them wired and a switch installed. Perhaps a good summer project.
