Anyone shopping assault rifles?

With the big O re-elected and his ambition to reintroduce the legislation similar to the previous assault weapon ban, is anyone planning to 'stock up' while they still can? I've been dragging my heels on a few purchases I had in mind but I wonder if time is of the essence now. :violin:

Also if anyone has some good reading info to share, feel free to link or pm me. I haven't really looked into them much in the past 2 years.

I shopped some local stores in person a couple weeks ago. Thought their websites were advertising list prices, but no those were the in-store prices.
Decent AR's are around $1,500.
They say you can build your own for roughly $900.

Stock market down today, except for gun makers.

This! My next rifle purchase will be a Ruger SR22 Rifle. Can't beat a high powered hollow-point for stopping power. Couple that with the low cost of 22 ammo and you have a real winner.

Agreed although I've mostly purchased handguns over the years.

I have a S&W MP 15-22 and it is a blast at the range. I'm looking for something a bit bigger though.


I like variety, so I'm probably looking for an AR to build, an inexpensive Russian style AK just to shoot, and an AR style shotgun as well. I planned to get a few other handguns first but those will probably wait for now.

You cannot buy an "assault" rifle. Those are burst fire or full auto.

You are talking about para-military rifles.

All my distributors have put AR-15's on the allocated list. Meaning, I just can't order one in for you and have it in 2 or 3 days. It could take 4 to 6 months.

If you want an AR, and see an AR, BUY THE BLOODY THING NOW!!!

Prices for a good AR should be $900 to $1200 range.

Prices are going to go up.

Also an SR22 isn't going to do squat when the :happens: hits the fan.

Find an AR that will shoot 5.56 NATO and 223.

Get a box of green tip 5.56 rounds and keep those for the zombie plan.

You have been warned.

It's a media term, it could be any gun with a removable magazine, pistol grip, foldable/collapsible or even semi auto.
 
dont forget ammo... the most expensive part of owning a gun, just last month i could have bought a whole new AR for how much ammo i shot, training is important.... dust queens with untrained shooters are worthless
pay up on a good a AR, i myself got a DD but they all shoot i guess

and a tax on ammo is more likely then gun laws getting tougher, at least at the start

Exactly... if it comes into play again extended mags, folding stocks, etc are no longer allowed to be manufactured for public use.
 
Ive been happy with my Ruger Mini-14. Looking to get a shotgun next. Either a Remington 870 or FN SLP. Also checking out the Ruger American rifle in .308
 
The S&W M&P Sport seems to have a good reputation. I've had good luck with S&W weapons so maybe that's a starting point.

They make a model with Magpul (brand) extras factory installed
I'm trying to decide between that and a mini-14

People who come up with these labels are usually those who know very little about guns and have never had a positive experience with one. Most of their opinions are formed form what they see in TV, movies, and video games. So, if a gun looks like something they saw in an action movie or on CNN, it's an "assault rifle".

I don't think the Mini-14 is an "assault rifle" by their definition....Never mind that it's just as effective a weapon. So, if fear of a ban is your motivator, go with an AR.

I'm not aware of one thing Obummer has done to impede on gun owners rights, or anything pending.

But since he's a D (and black to boot) and all, the doomsday preppers loooove to stock up on guns and ammo for jesus.
 
don't get married to symantics (like 'assault rifle') I'm not

I've had my eye on the mini-14 for a long time
just don't much like the price and barrel

want something that is compact, shoots further and straighter than I can with a handgun, reliable, and fun...

it's really great to have so many choices, none perfect for everyone or every use of course

truth is, resale prices on all these things are very good
you can pay too much, shoot the heck out of it, and sell it a few years later for 30% below what you paid, maybe no discount at all if you buy from the right individual

I remember back just before the Clinton rifle ban, I was an FFL and bought a case of AR15's. Doubled my money. Wife thought I had lost my mind.
