LOL I thought mine was the only one. It's very annoying.

Wiper functions do seem backwards, coming from American cars and after driving one all day I have some confusion. I can live without a function for making them only go off 1 time.

Also because of driving mostly GMCs all day, the dash in the yota doesn't really show all the same info. Don't like this.

I usually hear people complain about the seat, especially if they're bigger in general. I'm a 5'4 110lb girl, and my seat starts giving me issues after long trips. Lumbar in my seat is also often bipolar. Sometimes you press and get nothing either way. Not a big deal, but when I press for it, I really want it because of pain.

I think that's about it.

I've had my 2008 Limited V8 a little over 3 months now, and here's my list:

1. Driveline clunk.
2. Seat creak.
3. Lack of wiper mist feature.
4. Low speed on wipers too fast for my taste.
5. Drivers door panel switches not all lit.
6. Fog lights only work when low beams are on.
7. Wacky automatic temperature control.
8. No auto up/down for all windows.
9. No dimming outside mirrors.
10. Spongy brake pedal.

While annoying, I can live with 1-9. Hopefully #10 can be addressed by a good brake fluid flush.

As far as the stupid design of the front cupholders, a couple of large Drink Dockers made everything fine.

The front seats, particularly the passenger seat SUCK. They are the most uncomfortable seats I have ever been in.

I have power too.

The general seating position/lack of head room.

So much hate for the cup holders! Personally, I love them because they hold a 1 liter Nalgene bottle :bigok:! In my previous cars I would always have a water bottle banging around the floor... stop quickly and it could break something.

I also like the nice, polite BEEP from the keyless entry system that some people seem to hate... to each his own I guess.

I've only owned the 4Runner for a month and a half, but I have the same complaints that everyone else does:
-No mist feature
-Rear window washer doesn't automatically wipe after a spray (if washing from the OFF setting)
-Poor driver's door button illumination (poor illumination on all controls actually)
-All windows should be auto down/up
-Seat clicking

There are several things I don't like but plan on fixing:
-Map light mod
-Fogs on w/ high beams mod
-VSC off mod
-Sulfur smell from tailpipe with back window down
-Stock ride height (not many SUVs come taller stock though )

I've also lubed up the driveshafts to eliminate the thumping, but I consider that regular maintenance, not a "fix" per se.

I'm sure I'll find more stuff I don't like in the future, but overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my 4Runner!

I forgot one until today. Middle seatbelt reciever(?). It seems designed to stay under the seat, but when you need it you have to tilt seat up, which is a real pain with kid's seats in the way. Then when it is next to the rear driver reciever it gets pushed down when you try to put the seatbelt in it. Extremely frustrating when you have a car full of kids and you want to GO:redbrick:

The front passenger is probably the worst outboard seat in the 4th gen. The exception would probably be the second row center, which I've never sat in; or third row seats, which I don't have.

The Auto Climate Control absolutely sucks -- hate it. It takes so long to move the temp up or down, and the controls are down too low and hard to see, you have to take your eyes off the road. It also doesn't seem to heat or cool near as quickly as my Highlander did. Worst thing about the T4R.

My previous SUV was a 2004 Toyota Highlander with non-climate control system. The controls were up higher, so you could still see the road while glancing at them, plus they were dials you could flip very quick to the desired setting, and immediately get back to driving.

I don't get why people complain about this. It's like that for a reason, the angle of the high beams will reflect off fog making it worse.

If the reason is for better offroad lighting you need a light bar, not fogs.


On a side note, another peeve is the rear wiper wash nozzle. If the wiper is on already and you spray fluid, half of it goes down the window behind the wiper and is wasted. It should be timed with the wiper cycle or centered over the window.

3) Memory seats (wife is way shorter than I am)
4) BIGGEST: when I turn my lights on, the dashlights dim (totally normal, but...), but I prefer sometimes to have them on full brightness... uurghhhhh

I agree with almost everyone's elses items (no mist feature, tail pipe mod, HVAC....), but in the end, I would rather NO OTHER SUV (except maybe a GX :naughty: )

This is actually a legal requirement. Every vehicle in manufactured for use in the US is required to follow this spec. In most states, vehicles that are modified to circumvent this and allow the fogs to stay on with the high beams - can and may be ticketed. (I know because I was given a warning when I was in high school for doing that exact thing)

My biggest pet peeve is the location of the window controls. I think 90% of the time, I accidentally roll down the back driver side window instead of the front.

Also don't like:
-The musty AC smell (did the flush, still smells)
-Driveline thunk (lube gets rid of it for awhile)
-Positioning of the vents (seems like the one to the right side of the steering wheel is kinda blocked by the wheel)
-exhaust sulfur smell

I agree about the dash lights, amber looks terrible. I just swapped the amber LEDs with White and it looks so much better!

And the double decker thing really is worthless. Everything you place on it, just falls off as you're driving anyways. I hate it.

do you have any pics of your dash with the white LEDS? i have an 05 and i hate the amber lights.

Hadn't posted as most has been said but then i realized one that hasn't been said. i just got it the first time yesterday but it made me cringe and if it happens more often im gonna lose my mind.

1. the infamous "PISTON SLAP" of the v-8 on occasion.

it literally sounds like a rod let go i am not impressed!!!

2. the wiper tap switch
3. sulfur with rear window down
4. drive clunk
5. only 1 awkward placed 12v power source up front
6. no auto up for the rear window

the washer sprayers.... i hate the 3 streams. i wanna find another toyota to pull some off of that have a fan pattern like i did with my lexus SC back in the day. the RX sprayers were a direct swap.

I hate those sprayers, they are worthless. They don't clean your windshield at all! The back sprayer too, just a stream right in the middle that does nothing.

If you find a replacement, post it!

I think you can redirect the spray nozzles to where you want the stream to hit the windshield. Just stick brad nail or safety pin into the nozzle and most it around. I haven't tried it yet but you can squirt the Jeep guy next to you at the stop light. :lasercannon::hello:

its not a matter of adjusting them as much as getting the entire windshield covered when you spray it. lol. i plan to research it a bit when i have the time. ill hit up the toyota and lexus parts counter and see what i can find that will pop right in.

I had my 4runner for a year now and I thought that there is no equal SUV in its class, but there is one thing that makes me wanna shoot whoever designed the front seats in my car.
Drivers or passenger side , doesnt matter , I am not a big guy , nor a skinny one, and I fit perfectly in my 93 Altima, 02 Accent or 96 Villager ,or in to almoust any vehicle that is out there , so why Toyota made such a re****ed seats in such a big vehicle with the v8 engine and so many extras. This is really it. I am actually going to find out in a day or two how much would be there to change my seats with another one and if its too much than I'll be selling it.
