I don't see the need to look down at the window buttons to operate the switches.
I'm not sure what you mean by the rear picnic table but there is a small flip open table for the front passengers in the arm rest.

Not sure if it is in all 4R's, but it is a platform in the cargo area that acts like a shelf (raises off the cargo floor). The manual calls it a picnic table. Like other references, it also slopes downward allowing items to roll out when the liftgate is opened.

It's nice to tuck away emergency items under it, but I'm not sure what the shelf handles in weight. So, it never gets used in my truck.

Yeah, I shut it all down all the time. Toyota was smart enough to know this ain't no Camry. I double-checked the owner's manual and it says everything's shut off by holding the button for more than 3 seconds.

i feel dumb asking but which is the "OFF" switch? The only thing i see is the diff lock button...

This is something that irks me about mine, I'm not sure if I mentioned it in my previous posts in this thread. VSC is a great safety feature that has helped me a couple of times when I've gone into a slide on an icy rd., but it seems to me it could also be dangerous.

Just last night I pulled into a parking spot in a lot and when I left I guess there was a patch of ice under one of the rear tires so it started to spin ever so slightly. VSC killed power and I had to put it in 4 wheel drive and lock the centre dif to turn it off and finally I could pull out of the spot.

I'd hate to be in the middle of a slippery road with a truck barrelling towards me in this truck.:roadkill:

I'm currently looking for a shop in Toronto to do the VSC off switch mod for my 06. I'm going to get them to do the maplight and footwell light mods as well.

fricckin' engine whine when you let go of the gas.. brought it to 2 dealers and they both couldn't find the cause.. first they both acknowledge that it was an unusual sound, after that they claimed that the sound was normal... whine is not present when i take of the serpentine belt.. dealer replaced all 3 tensioners and still no dice.. hoping to listen to another 4th gen '06 to see if they have this whine.. anybody here from san diego?...

V8 or V6?

You sure its the engine and not transfer case whine which is common?

Am I the only 4R owner who's factory trailer hitch is 1/62nd of an inch smaller than a standard Class 3? Man, that drove me nuts the first time I encountered it. It's still a pain in the arse, but really my only complaint that isn't nit-picking.

I am a 5'3" female. (This is my hubby's screen-name that we both hop on). So the height thing is not a big deal to me, but the hubby is 6'4"ish and he complains of the head room. We have a sunroof. I hate the fact that when I unlock the car, none of my interior lights pop on. I also always roll down the back windows first on accident. My door lock switches are either backwards or Toyota had "opposite Friday" when they built mine as I have to push up to lock the door and down to unlock. I hate that the key fob will auto-down the back window but not up it. It's ridiculous to have to get in the car, turn the key to put it up. Defeats the purpose in my opinion. I don't know what the "mist function" you guys are missing. I only have to bump mine and it does one swipe. My husband complains about the VSC and how it won't let him wheel out. We find it irritating that the brakes catch when we are trying to climb sandy dunes. I've never noticed smells from the exhaust when the back is open, but I usually have all the windows open if the back is open as well. I wish the blinker had the one bump w/3 blinks option. I had it on my VW and it was nice. Didn't have to click on the blinker or hold it. Just tapped it!

I really love this truck though and wouldn't change buying it!

Did you know that you can put the key in the tailgate and hold it to the right and the window will roll back up? I know it's not on the key fob, but at least you don't have to get in the vehicle to do it.

Thanks! I did not know that! My husband was so excited b/c he figured out you can barely turn the key and the truck will continue to start, even when you just bump it. He's so cute with new info on this truck!

The 4Runner does have the "passing/changing lanes" feature on the signal stalk. But the overall and total travel of the stalk is really short, so a lot of times, it's too easy to click the stalk to "on" when changing lanes and have to manually return them to the off position. On my old Mazda, the passing/changing lanes on the stalk had a lot more travel so it wasn't as easy to click the signals on and it would return to off when letting go.

Search for a thread by Kmvreter. IIRC, he changed the capacitor or a component on the wiper control board and it gave a pseudo "mist" feature. But yes, it's very annoying that our 4Runners don't have the mist feature. Though with hydrophilic coating on the windshield, I don't need the wipers when I'm on the freeway, the water just rolls right off. I wonder if it's because we have the rear wiper controls? My '04 Camry and '05 Taco both have the mist function. The wiper stalk on the 4th gen is the same as the one from Toyota's in the 90's that had rear wipers, like the Supra, Celica, Camry wagon, etc.

Toyota has been removing features between generations. The 4th only has auto up/down on the driver side window only, the 3rd had it on both front windows. The 5th lost multi-mode 4WD, memory seats on the Limited and some other features from the 4th.

Yes. Mine will do the one flash and you have to hold it to get 2-3 flashes.

Correct. On the 4wds there's no switch. '03-07 you have to be in CDL locked mode. There is a less-than-ideal but effective "work around" (link in sig). Beginning in '08 they installed the switch that should've in there from '03 fwd.
