B&M 70264 tranny Cooler install question, hose size?

I juts got done mounting the cooler itself in front of the AC condenser, driver side with outlets facing passenger size.

Ready to hook up hose and do a flush but the kit came with a smaller diameter hose that the original Toyota hoses. I would really have to work them to get them on the metal lines from the tranny and to be honest I really don't want to force them on for fear of causing some leaks in the metal hose connections.

Would I be better off getting original size hose from Toyota? Some kind of adapter? How about heating the smaller hose with a heat gun to soften it?

All suggestions welcome.

My 70264 certainly did not come with 3/8" hose...easy enough to pick up at parts store.
Though I am wondering if I can use the B&M line for rear diff breather relocation.

Not to be difficult but the hoses are not the same size. I measured the male fittings on the truck from the tranny and the radiator and the OD is 10mm. The OD of the nipples on the 70264 are 8.5mm which will work with the supplied 3/8" hose but the truck fittings should get something a bit larger.

Besides, I can't imagine Toyota using 3/8 hose, I suspect they would have used 10mm hose and the closest SAE equivalent is 3/8" i.d. It's definitely a smaller hose and will have to be forced onto the pipes from the tranny. Lot's of ATF for lube and heat the hose a bit I guess.

The hose B&M supply in their kits is 11/32. Why? I have no idea, it's retarded. I threw their hose into my garage somewhere and bought new 3/8 hose at Autozone.

who cares what the OD is, you should be more concerned with ID, thats what matters. either way, i have 3/8 trans hose for everything past the metal lines, and they slip on over the metal lines just fine, so no need to go buy some adapter or anything funky. and im sure toyota doesnt use 3/8 as yes they are a metric manufacture, but 3/8 is pretty much the same thing, and they can both be swapped for one another... do we want to split anymore hairs...?

As others have mentioned for the intents and purposes of hose 3/8 and 10mm are equivalent.

3/8" =. 375"
10mm=. 3937"

Less than two thousandths of an in isn't going to stop the hose from sliding on.

Th difference is .02, 2/100's of an inch, not two thousandths, we are talking about ID here, not OD and hose supplied will not allow a 3/8 drill bit to enter without force.

I can always buy 3/8" hose, and the hose supplied fits the cooler but the instructions supplied are for American autos, not foreign so I imagine that's where the problem lies. BTW, B&M includes a slip of paper urging you to call them with any installation issues. Nice touch if they picked up the phone but they didn't.

Dude just buy bigger hose. I think I had to jam my hose onto the fittings, which resulted in not really needing hose clamps. If you use bigger hose that's baggy as hell then tighten the shit out of the hose clamps.

its all good, im telling you though the hose should have resistance when going on, that way it takes more force to get it off and will help the hose clap prevent it from coming off. and yes a 3/8 hose should provide resistance to a 3/8 drill bit... if for some reason B&M did not provide you with 3/8 hose then go down to the local auto parts and buy about 6-8' of 3/8 AT hose and use that, trust me 99% of us here have used the 3/8 hose and had no issues, as i recal yeah i put a little atf in the hoses before installing them over the hard lines to make things go easier, but i did not use any heat or adapters. :bigok:

OK, thanks, will do. Is ATF hose a special item or is it the same as fuel hose? Advance doesn't sell bulk hose specifically for ATF.

atf hose is specific, no fuel hose will not work, use ATF hose, NAPA should have it

I have a buddy's younger brother who works in Advance here in NC; that is where I bought my last 6ft of 3/8" ATF hose. Not as good as Goodyear, which used to be carried by Autozone, which I would try first.

Considering ATF hose is not sold daily for the most part, it may not be carried by all big name auto parts box stores. Call first.

Get some stainless hose clamps and call it a day.

No more posting @ 7am for me, hahaha. My point still stands, they are essentially equivalent since hose stretches. I used the supplied hose without problem, just a little lube (aka spit on the inside of the hose). Also, I am pretty sure nobody ever talks about O.D. of hose, since it's irrelevant unless you are drilling a hole to pass through a body panel. Maybe yours isn't 3/8s, but 3/8s I.D. *will* work, so just get some, it's cheap.

Just an FYI, as Kball stated, I just called B&M and they confirmed that the hose they supply is 11/32" i.d., not 3/8".

They told me to go get some 3/8" and clamp it down tight on the cooler nipples and it should be fine.
