Back in the club! picked up an 86 sr5 w/ 22re and 250k miles!

Hey all, been a while since my 1992 4runner sr5 w/ 3vze crapped out on me. I had replaced the radiator, water pump, timing belt, etc, then also the power steering pump and steering linkages. Crapped head gasket, sold it off for $800 to a friend.

Well just picked up a 1986 22re 4runner sr5 with $250k miles! Engine starts and it runs, albeit a minuscule quart a week leak, the cv joints are clearly shot, the front left brake caliper is leaking and rotor is shred to bits. I can drive it around the block or to the parts store but not much further!

Looking good! I do like the older 4Runners, wouldn’t mind picking one up as a project truck in the future. What are you plans with it?

1st thing is get it properly running! or rather, stopping. i'm going to change the front brake rotors and calipers this weekend

then front axles, maybe suspension and steering linkages

then see if this engine can be milked more or if needs a rebuild...

the idea is to have it for surf / camping adventures and also daily commuter. gonna probably put a rack on top and some sort of bed inside
