I didnt know this was a thing...

ive been a motorcyclist for 20+ yrs, i give the low wave all the time, but when i dont get it back from some (Harley guys or squids usually) i just curse them for the next 5 seconds and move on.


my buddy had a jeep wrangler for years, and would do their secret handshake thing...but hey, you dont always know about those jeep guys...


i have seen runner drivers, 5th gen specifically, catch up or look over to see whose driving mine...i give them a thumbs up. but my wife has seen this too, and they tend to look disappointed when they see HER driving my truck...oh well

Imagine this, some driver cuts you off nearly causing an accident, then politely waves and smiles at you as if it what they did was perfectly acceptable behaviour. This has happened more times than I can count. Or could it be that UT has the highest prescription anti-depressant usage in the nation?

Can concur. There's this weird culture here that it's ok to be blatantly rude as long as you're friendly about it. It's utterly wack, and it makes me stabby.

Here in Los Angeles we're too hip to wave. It never happens.

But we do have Jeep Courtesy. When I first started driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ ('93-'98) I recognized it right away. You never cut off another Jeep GC. If they wanted to get in your lane you made room for them. If they had to turn, you slowed a bit and gave them some leeway. You cut a Jeep some slack when other drivers would be cooling their wheels behind you - 'cause you weren't giving them your lane or your space. It was a sense of courtesy and cooperation on the road.

Something I'd like to see more of from some of the knucklehead drivers out there on the roads.

But seriously folks, in traffic, on the freeway, at a stop light, I'm not looking to wave or get to know someone in any kind of car because I see them in one. I'm watching where I'm going and what the knuckleheads are going to do next.

So no, when my new 4Runner comes in next month I won't be waving at all the 4Runners that go by. But I will walk out of my way in a parking lot to see a modified T4R.

Soccer moms in 4Runners? I'm not seeing that here in So Cal. The moms are driving Highlanders, RAV4s and Honda CR-Vs.

Nope, never received a wave. I'll get some looks every once in a while from stock 5th gen owners but no actual acknowledgement. I have yet to drive by another "modded" 5th gen while in mine. This is after 7 months of ownership and driving all around my state lol. Most of the owners of 5th gens I see are older women or older guys(40+).

When I owned my M3 I'll either get a nod/deuce or mean mug in an attempt to race.

15 years ago I probably would have dropped more dime on the bike than I should have. I am very familiar with the Muzzy stroker kit but reliability is a deal with me and nowadays I watch my 401k and my house nickel and diming me to death more than I am worried about dumping even more money into a sportbike that I will never see the ROI on.

It gets me down the road fast and will smoke just about any car made so I'm good. Priorities change as you know.

Was my favorite part of owning a WRX for sure.

But, I don't think the culture is the same. Most Runners I see are driven by middle age women.

I wave at every 4Runner with a mountain bike on the hitch. Two of my favorite passions. Every weekend at the trailhead I make a friend whether it be a 3rd, 4th or 5th gen 4Runner. The combo of runner and bike gets me hot and bothered.

Waving is kind of hit or miss, especially with the 4runner and landcruiser crowds...

Some people seem like they are simply interested in getting from point A to point B and see the 4runner as tool...and others have a real passion for owning/driving/modifying 4runners.

If I see the latter type (usually evidenced by some form of modding geared towards off-roading) I will wave. Otherwise, the wave doesn't really garner a response.

The Jeep crowd seems much more inclined to wave and greet each other, which is weird because I see just as many soccer mom's and other dispassionate people driving those vehicles as I do in the 4runner. Heck, I am willing to bet that even some of the modded "hardcore" jeepers I see, rarely, if ever, touch dirt...yet they all still wave to each other as if they share some communal bond....I think it's part of their sales agreement when they finalize their purchase from the dealership....:high5:

Some 4th gen idiot soccer mom on a cell phone got the single finger wave today after she failed to yield to me and my front bumper nearly gave her a huge character badge in her B pillar (T-bone).

You should see the area. There's no line between Tulsa and Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, or Owasso. Sand Springs and Catoosa barely have any area left to exploit before suffering the same fate. Collinsville is next to be absorbed by the Owasso crowd, and New Tulsa is the new "rural" development. Claremore has become the end of the chain along 66 starting at Catoosa and going through Verdigris with a few gaps in between. Claremore has expanded, and is very much a growing college town. Verdigris is full of subdivisions with those who commute into the Port of Catoosa, American Airlines, and other workplaces NE of Tulsa. I like the small town feel Verdigris/Claremore, but am moving in a couple months to be closer to family up north.
