Bennett Pass Road/Bennett Pass - Mt. Hood

Hello, all, and especially you NWers!

Anyone ever been up Bennett Pass road in the Mt. Hood area in Oregon.

I am planning a road trip right now and have found a few camping destinations I would like to check out that are accessed via Bennett Pass Road. I have been able to find very little information about this road other than oblique statements about how sketchy it is.

I found a topic about such on a Wrangler forum and they were commenting on how narrow a few spots are.

Has anyone ever driven this road, and if so what were your impressions? I don't think I have too much to worry about, even being completely stock, but I figured I would check to make sure.

All I can tell you is come during the summer or its probably closed and if there's a chance your driving at night get some good head lights and maybe a light bar.

Alright, so are you talking about Bennett Pass off Hwy 35 near Mount Hood Meadows? If so I'm almost positive it is closed off in the winter. Most stuff off the main Highways are closed up above Welches. It's probably not snowed in quite yet due to this dry winter, but there is probably a gate blocking it off.

I personally do not have experience with the road, but it has been on my list of areas I want to check out. When it is clear, you would probably be fine with a stock rig. Most the roads in the MHNF you can run with a stock vehicle.

Hey guys, thanks for some of the info.

Yes, that is the area I am talking about. I should have mentioned that I will be there in mid-July so hopefully I won't have to worry about it being snowed in still!

If you ever get a chance to check it out. let me know how it is. Normally I wouldn't worry to much but seeing as I will still have 4,000 miles or so to drive after that I don't want anything too rough.

No prob. You should be good to go in July! I wouldn't want to do anything too crazy either if I were you. That's a long ways to break something.
