From the article it does not sound like they'd work on my '98.

“BLACK” – Toyota 90119-10933; Bolt with Washer. This bolt is specified for the 2001-2002 4Runner, at locations with the protector boot. It is longer than the other bolts, to accommodate the extra thickness of the protector boot. The “11” head markings also classify it as a Class 11T bolt. The captive washer makes this bolt quite different from the flanged heads of all the other bolts.

I just used these on mine the other day. They will work without the protector boot without causing any issues. 37 ft/lb torque spec.

They'll work great! The only thing to watch for when using the longer bolt with washer without the boot protector is that the protruding threads will come very close to the CV boot clamp. Depending on how tightly the clamp was pinched, you may need to mash down a bit on the clamp's pinch (see below).

I haven't seen those lbj covers are they only 01 and 02 3rd gens? As I see 03 tocumas have them as well...

They originally came on '01-02 models, but you can use them on all 3rd Gens!

Explains why i haven't seen them. I mostly mess 1997 to 1998s I do have one 01 so i have to see if its still on them along with my 02 frame. Thanks Spiker..

No worries, discussion is always a good thing IMO. I wasn't sure what all years those updated LBJ bolts would work on so glad to know it's a fit for all years.

My 2002 did have the dust covers.

My 2002 did have the dust covers.

I didn't look at my 01 sport or my 02 frame. Most likely they do.


I expect Toyota added those shields to help keep dirt and water mud out of that ball joint to extend life as a guess.

Alignment is done. 3rd post updated with results but if you mess with the LBJs AT ALL I recommend one, you should see how far out mine was and I know it was the LBJs. Now on to some new tires. Gotta decide on 265 vs 285.

Good information Speedy. I plan to go to 255 next, as I currently have 285's. I like the way they look and I'm ready for something different. I've had the 285's for the last 8 years. What brand are you looking for? Do you know exactly which tire you want? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I had narrowed it down to Cooper Discoverer AT4S or Toyo Open Country ATIII. The guy at DT told me Cooper got bought out by Goodyear last year and that quality had started to decline and recommended the Toyos as a result. That's what I'm going with.

Oh interesting! I didn't know Cooper was bought out. That's crazy to hear. I haven't heard anything negative about Toyo so I'm sure you can't go wrong with them.

They do look pretty good, by the way. I'm hopeful that the quality of Cooper tires doesn't decline drastically because I've had great experiences with them over the past 8 years.

Yeah my buddy loves his Coopers and said one of the best tires he's had, but he got them a few years ago.

Toyos get great reviews, only down side kinda pricey. Tires last me a while so not a huge deal in the end I reckon.

Made a decision on tires. I'll let you guess what size. I was torn between 285/75R16 and 265/75R16.

Well now that I've given the above image a closer examination, I've deduced that there's a 50% chance that they might be 285's... :rofl:

The wheels are turned and it's not a full on side profile. But from what I can see, with as stuffed as the rear looks to be, I might say they are actually 285's.

Don't keep us waiting!

Edit: Aha, I did guess correctly! They turned out great man. The truck looks great as always.

Just finished watching the YouTube video. I definitely agree with your statement about size vs. type of tread. My St Maxx's appeared larger than my AT3 XLT's despite both tires being the same size.

Yep, good guess. I was very surprised how much larger these Toyos looked than the Revo2 I had on before. The Revos were well worn so maybe that was some of the difference, but in the end I got exactly what I was "looking" for and I didn't have to lose any performance in the process. I had forgotten how quiet new tires can be.

Next up are some fluid changes. I think I'm gonna build me one of those DIY pump sprayer fluid pumps.

Getting ready to do some fluids so I built a diy fluid transfer pump. Hopefully it pumps the fluid quickly.
