Getting ready to do some fluids so I built a diy fluid transfer pump. Hopefully it pumps the fluid quickly.

Starting to plan ahead for some interior restoration. My arm rest cover is toast and I already have a leather replacement for that, more to come there.

However, the steering wheel could use some love too. Original was scratched so years ago I put a leather perforated one on from Performance Products (anyone remember that place?). It's now also worn.

Looks like some much better option available now and I'm eyeing something like this. Can't decide on all leather or if the top and bottom should be suede?

Thoughts?

I am digging that wheel, Speedy. Would be cool if you could get the red, orange and yellow stripe like the Toyota colors. But overall that is sweet looking and will really modernize the truck.

That's what I was thinking, modern sport trucks have wheels like that with the center line etc, kinda like the Raptor as an example.

I've been building mine sorta how I thought Toyota might have done a sport version of the 4Runner.

Now I gotta decide on that suede. It looks good and probably feels nice, but I wonder how it holds up vs regular leather. For what these cost I could get one of each and just keep one on hand for down the road I guess.

Leather wears very well and will last a long time. I'd stick with the leather.

Suede leather jacket's & shoe's don't stay looking good for long, seat inserts either.
Checking out the care and cleaning procedure for it might clear up that decision.

Red (or any) strip at 12 o' clock is more suited to race/rally cars and ricers, not a 1.75 tonne SUV! A visual accent too far IMHO. Speedy I hate to break it to you man but you aren't 22 any more.:bounce:

Yeah the suede not holding up was my major concern. Leather it is.

Not so sure the 12 o'clock mark is only for rally cars and will line up with future changes I have planned

2023 Raptor Interior different strokes for different folks as they say. It's technically for removable steering wheels in race cars to get alignment right during installation, but is a nice touch IMO.

Red strip is personal preference (I'd lean on no, personally, but won't hate either way!). I would suggest having the perforated section cover the upper and lower spokes, similar to how the split is on the OEM leather.

Back in the day the 12 o' clock strip helped racing drivers position the wheels dead straight when pulling up in the pits making for a faster stop. For rally drivers it's a aid to straightening the wheels after a drift/slide through a corner.
As you say each to their own. Whatever your upgrade plans are for the interior I'm sure they will be well thought out and expertly executed.

The place that makes these wheel covers has lots of options, but it's not 100% user selectable so the perfs are only available on the sides I think. I'll double check that. I'd prefer to mimic factory as close as possible with a little performance twist. My original leather steering wheel doesn't have any perfs I don't think though.

As far as expertly executed, I think you give me too much credit I'm just OCD lol.

Which company are you using? (I may have missed it)
I ordered from East Detailing and chose a similar style to what you did.
I picked all leather w/perf'ed sides, black thread, and a tan stripe.
Hoping to get the kit soon and get rid of the tattered & dirty paracord!

As an aside, I used many suede wheels in my rally car days and I will say they
are amazing, but like any race-oriented product - "the candle that burns twice as
bright, burns half as long" The suede is meant to match a suede-palmed glove
to keep things from slipping around - especially in loose gravel situations, but it
gives up its wonderfully cozy feel fairly quick and it basically smooths out for good.

Less than $60. Seemed like a no brainer and I'm not scared of a little labor to sew it up. Was quoted $400 from an upholstery shop to reskin my wheel.

$60 that 2018 price that good! Never got baseball stitch to my liking.
$400 damn, $285.00 got a reskin @CraftCustoms.
