Biker Gang Incident

That seems a bit idealistic. Call the police, drive around, or hell drive to the station. Standing your ground sounds noble and very Butch Cassidy... but the reality is if you have a few dozen in a group already being aggressive and attacking, stopping seems to be the last option. Hell even with two extra mags and really good aim I wouldn't have enough bullets.

I would fight to the death to protect those I love if forced to, but I will also take every logical and tactical action I can to find a better way before it comes to that.

My honest opinion is that after you drop the first one or two that are threatening your life, everyone else will scatter.

I think it depends on the group and I'm not sure how you could possibly know the difference in the heat of the moment. If this were a real gang, dropping 1 or 2 would only fuel the fire.

These guys already showed a lack self-preservation so there was no reason to believe that would change.

You're right, you never know. But if everyone put their foot down and stood up for themselves I don't think that we would have the violence issues in this country. We have shown criminals that they can do whatever they want and they only need to fear the police.

Yeah I definitely agree with you in principle. I refuse to be a pushover and the world would be a better place if more people stood up.

But in this situation, I think numbers would dictate a different tactic. If anything he should have kept driving over them. Range Rovers do have reverse right? :D

I copied this straight from the nypost weblink....

Mieses hasn’t had a valid license in his home state of Massachusetts since 1999, and has never applied for a motorcycle license.

Is this the guy who was run over? I am just trying to clear things up bc if he didn't even have a valid license does that impact the lawyers right to even attempt to sue SUV driver lien let alone charge him?

Yes this is the guy that was run over.

As for the idiot that put himself in harms way and is now apparently paralyzed; Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

This is one of the best quotes I have ever read and fits perfectly for this scenario. He deserves everything he gets. The guy is from Lawrence, MA and his mother has been interviewed numerous times this past week on the Boston news stations. Needless to say, I see where this idiot learned from - I can't help but laugh at the things this woman had to say in defense of her son.

Wonder if those idiots would want to play there little games on the westside highway with me in the 8,000 lb desert tank.

If they all become stains on the pavement, it is better for everyone else driving.

NYPD and various other police dept are a fault. They already know when you get a lot of stupid idiots with no license, no insurance, and no respect for the law. Someone is going to get hurt if not killed. And yet they don't enforce anything.

Ranger Rover dude has a case against the city for negligence based on police officer present and failed to do nothing. Off duty or not, undercover or not, you're sworn to up hold the law. What a disgrace to the NYPD

To all those who are saying that you would have tried to drive away and avoid those guys BEFORE defending yourself with deadly force might want to think twice. I am not so sure that would have been a good idea. All you would do is escalate and prolong the inevitable while still endangering yourself, your family and those around you. Either way, you are in a bad position and prolonging it is doing just that... prolonging the inevitable.

Yes, pulling a weapon and firing on those who are trying to do you harm may just be fatal to yourself or your family. Either way you and your family are in danger at the point where a swarm of angry bikers wish to do harm to you or your family.

Now before you slam me for suggesting to stop and stand your ground, imagine this:

We live in a world where thugs, criminals, gangsters, bad guys and all forms of evil doers are afraid to do harm to others because THEY fear for their lives. People will NOT stand for being bullied and people WILL defend themselves, their family and the weak with deadly force. People will not tolerate thievery, wrongful violence, or any form of criminal activity. Criminals fear the general public because everyone will do what they have to do in order to make sure they are safe. We don't have to be scared for the several very valuable minutes that it takes for the police to show up because they don't rely on the police. We stand up for ourselves and show criminals that if they wish to do harm to innocent people that they will be dealt with accordingly.

Now... the above is FAR from the world we live in. In fact, it is the exact opposite. Why? Most people are straight up chicken shit and are afraid to take the hard stand. Why can't we stop the thugs when they first start to do wrong? Why does it always have to turn into running and letting them know that we are afraid of them? They will ALWAYS win!

I wasn't there and I have never been in a situation where my family was in danger along with me. However, I would hope that I would have the guts to not drag out the inevitable and take my stand right away and not try to run away. If everyone took the immediate stand then criminals would think twice before they start shit with people.

sounds good. except that it's illegal in a lot of places to do so. when one decides to carry, one HAS to know the laws with respect to deadly force. i don't know ny's laws, so i don't carry there. but i do carry in nh. until recently, one was required to use all means to "escape" before resorting to using deadly force. that has changed; stand your ground is now in effect in nh, and applies wherever one has a legal right to be. so, in the ny biker case, even though dropping a few of them might have been the best course of action, if the "defendant" was required to try to escape first, he'd best make the attempt.

even so, stand your ground or not, had i been carrying, i'd have still tried to get my vehicle, and family, out of there. forget stopping. run a few more over, whatever. that might just determine how much those asshats are interested in pursuing it. run two or three over, and they keep coming? well, now you know.

and screw brandishing my handgun for intimidation. when it comes out, as soon as it's on target, it's going boom, and boom, and boom, until the perceived threat is over, or the magazine is empty. although i really like my custom II, it is limited to 7 (factory mag) or 8 (aftermarket) rounds per mag. a 9 mm with an 18 round (or higher) capacity would probably be better for such social work. one or two extra mags, and that's plenty. either you've defended yourself, or you're dead.

what good is a baseball bat in your trunk? are the punks going to let you waltz back, open it up, and grab it? no thanks.

really, a baseball bat in your trunk? that isn't a defensive tool. that's something you'd use if you have bad intentions, since it doesn't serve any defensive purpose in a vehichle whatsoever. you can't readily access it. you can't use it in the confines of the vehicle.

It was mentioned to drive home (no pun intended) a point that guns aren't for intimidation.

Haha, pun is always intended. And I think we mostly agree that guns aren't a tool for intimidation. BUT, if someone backs down when you pull a gun then you obviously don't need to shoot and the tn just turned into a tool for intimidation with the intent on using it.

really, in that incident, none of the bikers are innocent. they actively participated in an action that civic-minded, decent people wouldn't consider.

as soon as they boxed the vehicle in, it's no longer just "fun". they clearly were up to no good, and at that point, the range rover should be seeking evasive action/escape routes. really, once the window got smashed, put it in reverse and 4wd, hammer it, and then get the f*** out of there. if you knock over a few bikes/bikers, so be it. as far as i'm concerned, every one of the bikers in that group was equally responsible, and at the escalation of breaking the window, all bets are off. get out of there, and run a bunch of them over to reduce the numbers.

Times like this reminds me of that good ol' saying: I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Yup. Duty To Retreat can go to hell. I'll retreat if it's the most likely thing to keep me and mine safe, not for any other reason.

Luckily, I live in a Castle state and don't have to worry about that nonsense.

they'd have to be seriously fast.

i mean, literally, as soon as the muzzle is on target.....boom. they lost the opportunity to back down. that's the whole point. you draw because your life is in danger. don't waste time talking about it. point and go.
