Cabin Fan Shrill at low Speed

Hi,

I have a 2011 SR5 with 15,000 Km which i bought recently. When i turn on the cabin fan at low speed i hear a shrill sound but it goes away as i increase the fan speed. Never heard a similar sound on my 06 4Runner sports or 07 Camry. Do you guys hear a shrilling sound at low fan speed in your truck?

It might be a leaf stuck to your blower. Find a flash light, open your glove compartment. Remove cabin air filter and inspect the blower.
Make sure you don't have keys in the ignition (safety first) and spin blower by hand to check for any debris inside, pay attention to the top part, where the blower's body covers the center turbine.

Btw, did you replace/clean cabin filter recently?

I had the leaf issue too. And here's what happened... My blower was whisper quiet until I took an air filter for clean up. I was winterizing sprinkler lines and decided to clean up the filter since I had my air compressor handy. Next thing happens, shredding sound at mid/high speed. Found leaf stuck right there. Tough spot to remove. Best tool I've found was my shop vac to suck leaf back.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I had the filter replaced recently at the dealership during 16K maintenance however this sound was there even before the filter was replaced. Its realy high pitch low volume and only there at LO speed setting. I think its produced by the motor itself. Will have a look at the filter over the week end.

it's the fan journal bearings. Common problem with those fans.

i've heard it on mine.. i think it's something you'll just have to deal with..
