I was simply making a personal observation. I will admit I would rather have a V8, okay? I admit it. Like Fastlif pointed out, I have V8 envy. It's just with the price of gas skyrocketing and BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE A LOT OF MONEY to upgrade to a V8 and for various other reasons, I chose the 2005 V6. Like many have said and I agree, either engine you can't lose. Just one more thought: I'll bet my 2005 V6 can beat your 2003 V8. Whoah, who said that.

I also have the V8. Not that much more vs. what other brands charge for an 8 vs. 6. I do tow a small camper (the 6 would be adequate as well here) I also like the full-time 4WD feature. Gas mileage is not that much worse than the 6, but if we really cared that much about mileage we would be driving something else!
That said, if Toyota didn't offer the 4.7L V8, than I would be perfectly happy with the 6 cylinder. I drove both several times and I would take a six cylinder 4Runner over an eight cylinder model of many other brand offerings.
V8 vs. V6, Limited vs. Sport vs. SR5 , with and w/o X-REAS = more choices for the consumer! Any way you configure it, the 4Runner is a better choice than most anything else in it's class.

Another bragging right for the V8 owners is that little V8 badge on the grill. Come on fellas, that little emblem says a lot and we should be proud! All oncoming traffic knows that our 4Runner's have a V8. I think even the V6 people will agree with me here. It is worth that extra $$ in gas just for that good feeling! :lmao:

Yep. After i upgraded (and i mean upgraded) from the V6 to the 8. I look out for the badge on the 4Runners i pass on a daily basis. If i dont see the badge, i kind of feel sorry for them, lol. Just kidding. Its definitely worth the extra gas.

I have mostly driven four bangers and v-6's. Since I decided to hang on to this vehicle for a long period of time (read 4ever) I wanted everything just right.
I don't care if the v-8 got less mpg than the v-6. I wanted a proven engine with both the hp and the torque to handle anything I might throw at it in the future.
As for the v-6, I test drove it with the 4 spd auto and it seemed quick enough. I bet with the 5 spd auto it is even better.

04 v8 limitted here owned it now for seven months and loving it.
I also keep an eye on v8 badges for no reason other than to know what kind of power they got and how I think they are missing out on something.

Aloha. 2004 V8 Limited 4X4. Gas here on Oahu is $2.60/gallon in town and I'm getting about 12MPG, what fun. I love my 4Runner, just wish I could squeeze out a couple more MPG's outta it. Good thing I don't drive more than about 350 miles a month. I too look for the V8 badge on other rides.

At the time, 04, the five speed tranny, the V8 smoothness, and its extra torque were the sellers. Plus the V6 gas rating is really not that good, so its not like I would save 5mpg's or something, I mean, its too small to care, so why not buy bigger? I drove a V6, and it was fine, if it was the only thing offered, I would be like everyone else and driving a runner the same, but like with any vehicle I have purchased and will in the future, I love more power. I did not like the noise it made, and it definately was not as quite under the hood. I think one of the best things of the V8 runner over the 6 is the full time 4wd system. This makes the vehicle much better to drive everyday of the year, especially in the winter. I have been tempted in trading my 04 for the 5 just for the more motor, but I have not had the time to drive one yet, and all I hear is that you really wont feel a big difference, so it may not be worth it. Plus I really love mine, and the way I have it now, and wouldnt mine keeping it til this body is in its final year run.
Anyway, we could all be a bunch of Suv geeks and rent a track and drag race each other? haha.
Best part is we all own the best Suv out there for most people, its the people that own Chevys and Fords we need to convert, to quit falling for the cheapo prices.

Fastlif, I have to agree with you on just about everything except the full-time four wheel drive. I can also use full-time four wheel drive if I wanted, but for some reason it just feels a little lighter when in two wheel. Sorry for not describing it better. Maybe I'm the only one who seems to notice a difference. Either that or it's just those damn early 1970's drugs kicking back in. Oh, and I really wish you would take down that picture of my wife. heh...I've stayed out of the discussion for a bit here, but I guess I can chirp in. I had a 2003 v8 limited (2wd) that I ended up trading back in for a 2004 v8 lim (4wd)...
Speaking on the difference of 2wd vs 4wd, yeah, the 2wd always felt "lighter" as in...when I hit the accel, I would feel the vehicle shift (lean?) backward as it planted me back in the seat. Now, that one didn't have xreas...
with 4wd (all the time, thanks!), when I stomp on the gas pedal, I have 4 wheels running, and xreas keeping the front end down..I still get planted back in the seat, but I don't feel the lean at all...so maybe that's the perception. The difference is that if I want/need to, I can stomp on the gas on a turn (as long as I don't go fast enough to flip) and the front will stick in and pull me around.
I do a lot of driving in the rain and wet conditions (sorry, no snow around here). I have yet to feel the vehicle loose traction on any of the wheels going at the same pace/speed as I used to in the 2wd version. For that reason alone, I'm sold on using 4wd all the time.
The reasons I bought the v8 was for the power (yes, I can do the Tim-the-Toolman "MORE POWER" growl) but mainly the smoothness of the 5 speed transmission. At the time, that trans wasn't available on v6. The quiet purr the v8 had really was the final thing that hooked me about the v8...
v6? v8? they are both EXCELLENT vehicles...like others have said, I just feel sorry for the drivers of other suvs....they have no idea what they are missing...
