No joke, if you can work remotely why are your living in one of the most expensive areas in the country lol! I miss parts of the East Bay at times but as far as traffic/busyness/stress goes I don't miss the Bay Area one bit.

No problem what so ever. You just narrowed it down with those several lines you wrote.

Three major Airports:
1: Fairbanks. Interior Alaska. Temps will range from -60 to 103*. Nice to visit, I don't think I could handle the winters.
2: Juneau. Southeast Alaska. Only way to it is by Air or Water. No roads in or out.
3: Anchorage. South Central Alaska. We covered a bit there already.

One thing you will find though is up here, every small area will have an airport that you can fly to Anchorage from. So for me, I work on the Slope and live in Kenai. Jump on a 25 min. flight to Anchorage and then take Alaska Airlines to Deadhorse. It's a lot better then driving the 2 1/2 hours to get there. Though flights can get delayed often due to weather because of the small planes.

But, if I were you (and if you're anything like me), I would look just north of Anchorage. Main highways pass through there and it's a great starting point for adventure. It can save you hours of driving.

As for Internet, I love my cable internet but obviously, that won't be everywhere. DSL speeds are limited depending on where you're at. But around Anchorage either option you should be fine. If you want to get out on your own, Satellite Internet has come a long way in the past 12 years since I've dealt with it. Services like Hughes Net work well. Several family members have it and it works for them (not sure what your needs are). Just keep in mind, all the satellites are directly over YOUR heads. So our dishes are pointed at something like 10* from the horizon or something crazy like that. Can be hard to get a signal depending on trees and such.

Yup. The flexibility is quite nice.

One reason I stay now is my parents. Pop just got out the ER earlier this week, now in a rehab facility 15 minutes from our home. I'd never leave them, especially as an only child...

Much to like about the Bay Area of course, from the climate, clean air (relative, I know), Silicon Valley, the colleges and universities, diversity, nearby ocean and beaches, plenty of lakes, rivers, the delta, mountains (Santa Cruz, where we have some land), wine country, Tahoe and Yosemite a morning drive away, six professional sports teams. Pretty darn nice and unique... Been here 50+ years though and I'm open to some change.

Alaska has appealed to me for a long time, especially as a young man; which I am no longer. Parts of Oregon too...

Interestingly, I type this while looking at a bottle of Toyota factory red serving the odd duty of trying to bend straight a warped bathroom sink backsplash! It has been doing that for about a month now, lol. Trying to get this back on topic, and that's the best I have guys, but it's true...
