One thing you might want to check is to make sure the coax is not being pinched where it seems to go from the antenna in between the body side panel and the hatchback as the hatchback is opened and closed.
I found that my coax from the mag mount on top if not kept in the notch in the top of the hatchback that is about in line with and just aft of the fore/aft roof rack rail. it would be pinched between the roof and the hatchback as the hatchback was opened and closed.
Never had this problem with previous 4Runners but fortunately I caught it before any damage was done to the coax.

I went with the diamond K400. I bought it at Ham Radio Outlet in San Diego. I also bought the CBI mount because I couldn't make up my mind.

I put an ICOM under my seat using velcro, for my HAM...because I threw my CB in the trash...where it belongs.

CB shop says they can easily fix me up with a mike knob, to replace the belt clip, and a dash mount mike clip. Will stop by there next time I'm in the area so we can figure out the best dash clip for location as they have various configs and knobs.

I've purchased/ordered all I need for my install, with your guidance, but I'm still stumped on this rubber grommet and wire loom you speak of. I looked through this thread and dug around inside my T4R a handful of times, but still can't find the location. I'm going to use the 4th gen CBI antenna / ditch mount bracket so I need to get through fire wall somehow.
Can you please either repost the picture or point me to the post # so I can slit away and stuff my coax through the firewall?

Oh boy. I don't believe I still have the pic. I traded in the 4R on a 2017 Taco and I purged a lot of pics. Shame on me!
The wire loom I speak of is a fairly large diameter bundle, maybe 2.5" diameter. If you sit in the driver's seat and look at your left knee, then follow an imaginary horizontal line from your knee to behind the dash, you'll find the wire bundle. Get on your knees outside the opened driver's door and look under the dash and up slightly to where that imaginary horizontal line would be pointing. You should see the wire bundle passing through an even larger diameter grommet in the firewall. Now look into the engine compartment at the firewall, and knowing where the wires enter on the dash side, you should be able to spot them easily on the engine side.
To access the grommet, take an Xacto or razor knife and locate the outermost edge of the grommet that doesn't have metal under it. This will be as far away from the wiring as possible while still being "inside" the pre-existing hole in the firewall. Cut the rubber boot and cut / twist / stab the knife until you have penetrated the entire grommet.
Lube up your wiring or coax with some Windex or soapy water, and press it through the cut. Wiring is generally easier to install from the inside to the outside, coax with a PL259 on it you will have to install outside to the inside.

Loved mine, but glad I have the 4R now, and to keep this on topic, I will be looking for that grommet soon too. Going to put in a Kenwood D710G soon, so will need to run wires. I will take pics when I do my install.

Found it!!! Damn grey Karr alarm box was ziptied to the wire loom and blocked visual access to the rubber grommet. Found a similar one on passenger side as well. However, the passenger one looks much more difficult to access, but might work better for my install as I plan on mounting antenna on passenger side. I'll finalize that battle on installation day!

There is a similar loom on pass. side, I actually used it on my Taco. It's slightly smaller but still usable for a PL259 to get pushed through.

I enjoyed the 4R a lot, but the Taco is kind of where my heart has always been. Owned 4 of them.
I'd still play the game but no one weighed in on my question about playing with a Taco. I considered just never putting the entire truck in the shot and only having like a corner of a mirror or something so no one could tell!
This is the 2017... trying to keep the mods light. I have HAM and CB (to keep this on topic, LOL), tint, larger tires, 2nd gen OR wheels, and a few other little things. Not going to lift it, no bumper, no winch.

For those interested, I finally got around to this.
Since the screws holding the belt clip on the Midland 75-822 are really small, and would be hard to find one with the right thread and length, we removed the belt clip, drilled a hole in it, mounted the mike knob on the belt clip with a small bolt and reinstalled the belt clip.
Put a mic clip on the dash trim, just below the A/C fan control knob using short screws. Since the unit is heavier than just a mic, I will probably later remove the dash trim piece (per other threads that appears rather easy) and put the mic clip on with small bolts. That way there would be no concern for the screws loosening and/or elongating the holes in the trim with continued use putting the unit in/out of the clip.
Now I don't have the unit just sitting in a cup holder or laying on the console. It is also easily accessed being just below the fan knob.
