Cigarette Light to Dual USB

Long time lurker, short time owner.

I bought a Blue Sea Dual USB socket this past week and wanted to swap the stock cigarette lighter out for it. When taking apart the console, I noticed the hookup on the back of the cigarette lighter wasn't anything that I was use to.

I'm guessing the green wire is the live wire with the other being the ground? Tried looking around and didn't really find an answer. If that be the case, can I just cut them off of that adapter and attach to the back of the blue sea socket?

If all you want is 2 USB power outlets, this will work unless you really want a USB hub or maybe I don't understand.

That wire has already been tapped...twice. Did you buy used?

Yep. Bought it used. I noticed a red wire under my drivers seat whenever I bought it but nothing crossed my mind. Here is a picture of that. I'm guessing the other goes to the passenger side. No idea what they could be powering at this point. I have stock seat warmers and what not. Any idea?

Well after almost tearing my shoulder to pieces trying to investigate. The wires seem to be powering the seat warmers. I guess I don't have stock seat warmers. When I bought it, these looked stocked to me but I guess not. Oh well.

If they were stock, they would have switches in those 2 blank panels. IIRC, they were only on limiteds. I would check the fuse for the power outlet and make sure they didn't install a larger fuse when they installed those seat heaters (fire hazard). I would re-wire them to a relay and fuse from the battery. They'll work a lot better, too.

What's in the bottom of the cup holder?

ETA: Yes, the green wire is positive, white is ground.

Mine look like the ones in this pic. For reference, I have a 2012 SR5 and am unsure if they've looked different in other 5th gen years.

Would this not be easier? It's slim, you wont even be able to tell that its not hardwired.

Between my wife and I we have 4 phones, iPad, and a GPS when we travel. I mounted one of these on the side of the console to keep everything charged. I still need to hide the wire that runs to the 110v plug but that's a battle for another day.

meh I just used a cheap radio shack 2 car adapter outlet.

run my garmin in 1 socket and a Verizon car charger/usb charger in 1 for my GS3.

dedicated micro usb adapter for the GS3 and a usb connector for the iphone 5 lightning adapter the warden has.

big bulky but it gets the job done for $12

First I want to say thanks to the people that helped me in this forum as well as the ones that posted. Finally got around to doing this install today and I think it looks great. Originally I had a dual USB adapter but I'm way to OCD. Really wanted something stock looking.

Back to the pic in the first post. It looks to me there are 2 wires tapped into a much smaller wire (the green one). It looks like a 22 ga wire that is now supporting 2 12ga wires. This is a really bad idea because that smaller green wire won't be able to handle the current required by either of the red wires. I suggest you remove those taps and reconnect the red wires to a circuit or separate fused source that can support the needs of those circuits; after you confirm what they're going to. For safety I suggest you disconnect and cap those wires until everything gets figured out.
