I reset about once a month and i do it going down the highway that way it starts out high and works its way down. it's at 19.9 after 4 weeks of not resetting. its in eco mode, mostly city and some highway and i do baby it a little. 900 miles on her.

Don't forget about tire inflation and size regarding gas mileage. Higher inflation = better mileage but loss in traction. All terrain tires will not do as well as touring tires with regards to gas mileage. FWIW

I've had my Trail Edition since mid December 2009. I usually get 20.6, probably half highway, half city. Over the last three tanks I haven't reset and currently have 20.2.

Mileage report after 3500 miles

Mountain driving; 19.1, Hwy; 24.0 at 65. The reason I posted this is to let folks know the evaporative canister failed on a number of 2010 4R, including mine. The mileage dropped considerably(2-4 mpg) before they replaced the canister. On mine, the check engine light would go on and off. I am not sure that would happens if the canister did not out-right fail, rather just malfunction. Maybe the check engine light might not come on?

Just put my Yakima rack on. i've been averaging 20.1 over 2000 miles. I've reset my computer and will see what the difference is.

my average mpg number is off. it usually stays between 19.0-19.3, but when i calculate it i am getting around 18 mpg. when i do my california trips i will get about 21.5 mpg for the highway driving.

new cars tend to get bad mileage which improves as the break-in process finishes.

When i got the truck with 70 miles on it the meter read 13.7 mpg. I drive very economically, split highway and city, and the meter is sitting at 14.2 mpg now at 550 miles. I was not expecting this poor of gas mileage, i will hand calculate next time i fill up but with the way ive been driving that mpg is piss poor.

probably a stupid question, and i havent tried yet but how do i reset that mpg reader on the dash there?

Hold down the set button to reset.

I took a 300 mile round trip and filled up right before I left and reset the mpg. At the end of the trip I was at 22.9mpg and had 1/4 of a tank left.

Computer vs. Calculator

When I have compared the computer reported mileage to calculated mileage at the time of tank fill-up the two numbers have agreed to the tenth of a gallon. (Way better than my 4g ever reported!) However, I'd expect them to agree only when the computer is reset when filling up. Resetting the computer on the highway (or whenever) ends up measuring apples and oranges. YMMV - pun intended!

I have 4000 miles on mine and am averaging about 18.5 a tank (as per the computer). I thought by 4k miles that it would be slightly improving, but this is the mileage that I have been getting all along with my best ever tank mileage at 19.3 and worst mileage at 17.6. The worst part is that I am about 80% highway and was hoping to average 20 overall.
Something I noticed is that the T4R doesn't coast well, it seems to want to hover a little over 2000 rpms when coasting down hill and this causes unintended compression braking. My tahoe, once you let off the pedal, goes to about 1200 rpms while coasting (with no noticable compression braking) and I think that does two things to help improve the mileage it receives: 1. it allows the vehicle to maintain a low loss of speed in coast and 2. it reduces the need for accelleration subsequent to the period of coasting.
Has anyone noticed the compression of the engine in downhill coasting? If not, give it a shot and see. Nonetheless, I truly think this can cause a reduction in average mpg by +/- 1 or so.

Can't say that I have. I'm about to take a road trip that will cover about 3k miles by the time it's over and will report on averages after that.

I saw 25 + mpg on the freeway today with the cruise set at 60 mph. Impressed to say the least.

Since brand new and about 3500kms later, I am averaging 17.5 miles per US gallon....about 75% city, 25% hiway.

Only 220 miles in, but my SR5's mpg gauge says 21.2mpg... and that is w/ about 30 or 40 miles of city driving and a couple times winding it out getting on the interstate. I gotta say, I'm thrilled w/ the fuel economy so far.

Filled up for the first time. 22mpg calculated by paper (readout was actually 21.7ish). Just filled up and drove 220 miles to my parents' place, across the mountains. Reading 22.7mpg with several long, tough pulls up the mountains.

600mi on it so far. Love my T4R.

Just under 4000K on a a TE with about 20% highway driving and the highest I can get is 16.7. I will say one thing though, the motor seems to be getting more powerful everyday. Closer to 20 MPG's would be nice.
