Now that my engine's rebuilt and the Honda is sold, the 4runner is back out retirement and my DD again. Another option is to do what Proudrunner did and have someone make your tailpipe go over the frame and angle downwards (right behind the bumper). Kinda hard to explain, but see if you can have Proud take a pic of his exhaust for you.

That's right, how did that turn out? I assume they fixed the problem free.

I'll have to send him a PM, but I can figure out what he did just by looking under there and your description.

Just for fun: Nathan at CBI was nice enough to send me some photos of my bumper in the build process. They're on my other computer, though, so I'll get those up later.

For those who wonder how to mount one of these, here's some mounting photos. It just requires a nice drill and some patience.

Unfortunately, after the welding of the crossbar, mine did a little skrinking over at CBI, so the tow hook bolts do not fit yet. Gotta widen the hole (literally half a millimeter off...). Still gotta drill two more holes too, and do the last two bolts. Also followed by some other pics.

To install, you'll need at least a good drill, a set of large bits, a grinder with a metal disc, and a common set of wrenches and sockets. I have a 1/2 dr. Impact as well as an air drill so that made my life easier.

Sometimes, but not all the time, you will have to trim the body mount to get the bumper to come up all the way. I trimmed about a half inch. It's a lengthy process grinding all of the excess weld away, but was required in my case.

You'll have to drill quite a few holes. Frames are not easy to drill through, so be prepared.

The impact is nice, here, because it can makes those bolts tight.

Also, I found out something last night that was really cool. I have a tow hitch from a 4th gen/GX470. I test fitted it and found out that the angle in the bumper was made in contour with the hitch angle. Pretty badass if you ask me.

It took a few tries, but the Toyota dealer was able to source this 01-02 grille, painted imperial jade from the factory. Score!

Next is the chrome part on the front bumper, I have a green one. Afterwards, who knows...

How do you keep that truck so clean, do you use clay bars? My Runner is Evergreen and I can't seem to make it shine like yours. Any suggestions on cleaners or a wax? Thanks for any tips you can give...

Edit: I really like those D-mounts you have on both ends as well, if I had an extra $200 I would bolt 2 sets on my truck!

I've owned it for 3 years, I buffed it twice, once after vandalism and once after paint to make the rest match (the front is all new paint since Feb 2010, its somewhere in this thread)

Imperial Jade I think is naturally a deeper looking color, my mom's old Evergreen Previa didn't look half bad though...

I wash it maybe once or twice a month... ahah I don't know what else I can say.

I just had the front D-rings before, $65 for the mounts and $15 for the shackles. The rears obviously came on the bumper...

I ordered some Automotive touch up paint and clear for a bumper that driffter33 gave me. I am gonna sand it down and repaint it, then swap the chrome out.

Here's a pic I made on failshop lol, I was lazy so i half assed it... but it looks awesome!

Many of us have seen driffter33's new bumper.

He gave me his old bumper, but it had the holes on the sides for flares and the paint was history. I decided not to use it.

While surfing T4R.ORG, I learned that you could buy the factory grilles already painted. I shat a brick and bought a green one.

This left me with a chrome bumper left, no more chrome but that. Finally, I decided it was time to learn how to do some body work. Filled in the fender holes with a welder. I bought some Bondo and smoothed it out (not well.. oh well, first try). Primered and painted with good ol' Imperial Jade.

It was about $150 new. It's striking, I wish I had known how bad quality my old aftermarket one really was.

Wicked COB! I saw that you were planning on doing this, and I never thought it would make such a big difference. Color matching that one peice of chrome really brought the front end, and the overall color scheme on your 'Runner, together quite nicely.

You have officially converted a base 4Runner into a Highlander. You've got it all from the springs/suspension, to the scoop, to the color matched bumpers/trim. Way to go man. :thumb3:

I first need to replace the front one since it has a few rust spots starting to bubble.

But id like to paint both this summer.

I want flares but dont want to pay 400$ for bushwackers.

Chrome one went in the garage. I repainted a once painted one. Description is in the last post. From past readings, doesn't work too well.

The flares are factory for an SR5 model. Most notable is the 1999 Highlander.

friend of mine bought his 3rd gen new in 01. Dealer installed brush guard and lights, never wired. Took off his lights and brush guard.

Took em apart and only kept the necessary part. spose'n i has lights now

but without a real mounting surface, it's kinda bleh now. temporary feeler i guess.

Hey man would you mind sharing how you have those mounted? Are they just secured into the front license plate mounts or what? My Hella 700ffs should be coming in the mail today and im trying to think of a way to mount them and where to mount them. I think i like the look of them right in the middle like yours, especially with the contrast of the clear corners + signals it just flows very well. Just not exactly sure what there is to mount to. Looks awesome btw! Thanks for any help.
