COB's 4Runner Timeline (Pic Heavy)

Nice shots!

Thanks again, man. It was fun having you over and I look forward to your next visit. Your photos are amazing.

Great pics man!

Thank you, fightman!

It is truly amazing how far this rig has come.

It really is incredible. I can only imagine what's next.

Biggest smile I've had on my face all day, man... haha thanks buddy.

simple, yet sickest tire/rim combo that matches color. the bumpers match..all smooth

That really means a lot, especially when anyone can see by your truck that you have excellent taste, yourself. 2wd buddies forever man

Thanks Jared. Yeah, half of my 3rd tail light stopped working. I'm sure it has to do with the lack of weather stripping, damn China junk. It's still half working, lord knows I'll end up buying another one someday... sigh. The other LED tails are still working great, 3 1/2 years now (time flies, damn).

Very slow day at work, had enough free time to get some little stuff done.

Was out wheeling 2 nights ago, when the strangest thing broke... my A/C button. The front part just sorta fell out. Anyway, dipped the broken end in epoxy and stuck it back in, works as good as new. Glad I didn't have to go searching for another one, the donor's was busted.

These PIAA 580 driving lights are really cool, they're put to use them any chance I get. The problem I've been having on 2 lane canyon roads is having to switch both the high beams and 580's off to avoid blinding any oncoming drivers. The driving lights were originally set up with the 510 fogs to come on with the running lights (for low and high beam use), but the 580's are now aimed and wired to work only with the high beams. I'm gonna swap out the PIAA switches soon with OEM fog rockers. OEM switches all the way. Here are some crappy iPhone pics from testing the beams:

I swapped the Toyota horns for some Mercedes ones a while back, but I must have been tired or something that day. Ended up redoing them, the wiring was too sloppy. Also removed the PA speaker wiring until I figure out a new spot, it used to be mounted behind the stock bumper.

Also did an oil change. Back with 2WD, getting the oil filter was a breeze up through the lower control arm. It's a lot harder with CV's in the way. Finally found a suitable way through the wheel well, exactly like the V6's but on the passenger's side. Exhaust has to be cold though, very close proximity to the header. You know you own a 4Runner when you're cleaning the skid plates every oil change.

While I was under the hood, replaced the plastic ring on the hood prop with the donor's, and cleaned the MAF with electronic contact cleaner.

Been having battery mount problems. I changed batteries from the huge 850A Mercedes battery to a smaller one with 800A. The battery kept sliding, which would pinch power steering return line against the supercharger nose cone. I ziptied a piece of wood to the mount as a spacer, the battery mount is tight and hopefully it shouldn't move anymore.

And last, redid my muffler hangers with some baling wire that we use for condensed cardboard at work. Might be a little ghetto, but it's strong and does the job. Side Note: Absolutely love the Jardine muffler, it'll be welded on with some real hangers someday. It's clamped on and was held by a bunch of coat hangers for 8 months, but it survived tons of 4wheeling without problems, can't say that for my old properly installed Magnaflow.

Coming soon: clutch pedal linear spring, different stickers, fog switches, and in the long run a big interior refresh. As far as other stuff I still haven't installed, sorry, I'm working on it. Gonna need a lot of money for tuning and I just don't have it now.

Hey COB, I'm posting this here cuz I'm sure your PM box is full.

You mentioned meeting up and talking Runners, since we're both in OC. If you're down to drink a few beers, I can at the very least pick up a sixer of Anchor Steam and pick your brain. I have a few unresolved issues I want to map out over the next 6 months or so. And you can finally see that I really do need a paint job. It's amazing how a digital camera and a few choice angles can make my truck look perfect.

Also, I need to replace my IAC, or idle speed control (I've seen it written both ways), and I'm wondering if you have one that's compatible with my 97 V6 4x4. Let me know what works for you. I'm working odd hours right now, but I can usually free up my schedule, especially during weekdays. It's tough for me to meet on weekends at this point. My cell is 949-351-8081, and my real name is Joe, which is unrelated to my username here, though I don't care if anybody sees it.

PM box was bothering me, so I deleted everything and started over again. It's got space now haha.

I wouldn't have guessed your paint was bad, good work with that camera.

My schedule is similar to yours, I always have to work weekends and find my free time during the week. I'll send you a text and we can talk further. I always like to talk 4Runners.

Count me in as well. I can spend the night in OC and go wheeling early in morn. You both have my info.
Got ya. You'll be in the loop.

dude i want to join....no homo

Haha well if it ever happens, you'll know!

A few days ago at work, I snagged some Velcro and redid the dash cover for that flat perfect fit. Also redid the wiring between the subs and amplifier for a more solid connection. The old connection often came out of the sub terminals over bumps, which got very annoying.

Some of you may remember the 40W PA speaker I installed a few years back. It met an untimely end prior to installing my Shrockworks. I removed all of the wiring in hopes there was a fault somewhere, tested it, but it's just not working anymore. Damn... going to search for a 100W next time around.

The Alice in Chains sticker was cool, but I just didn't like how out of place it was on the back... err a little too far to the left, too. Removed it and placed it onto my laptop, where it can stay.

A few weeks ago, I was out in Newport Beach visiting a friend when Javelin drove past in his white 4th gen. I chased him down and noticed a T4R.ORG sticker, which gave me the confidence to ask for his info.

After some thought, momo sent a 12" white T4R logo to my door about the same time a 12" white Children Of Bodom sticker showed up. Kinda made sense to me to do it this way.

Also: Ordered 2 NAPA CV axles.

Found the NAPA CV axles at my door today. I chose NAPA axles because so many have expressed satisfaction with their good quality.

I paid $220 + $30 shipping. They shipped them in original boxes without any additional protection or packing material whatsoever. Literally smacked a sticker on them and sent them out. Both hub seals were bent in multiple spots. They appear repairable, though I don't wish to purchase brand new items only to have to repair them on arrival. Regardless, they are not in brand new condition.

I am pretty freaking pissed, sent this email to NAPA:
Hello,
I recently ordered 2 CV axles for my 1999 Toyota 4Runner. I received them today, Wednesday 8/1.

Unfortunately, both arrived in very damaged condition. Both axles were shipped in their original boxes without any additional packaging whatsoever. Both the axles and the boxes arrived in extremely poor condition. The hub seals of both axles are severely bent.

I was recommended to NAPA from a good friend for the good quality CV axles with neoprene boots. My 4Runner has been disassembled waiting for these to arrive. Now it must sit longer, waiting.

This sort of incident is ridiculous and I would expect much better performance from a company the size of NAPA. The level of dissatisfaction I've been left with is immense and I would like a very fast resolution. A good company would have gotten this simple order correct the first time and I would not have to deal with waiting longer to fix my vehicle.

I got reman cv's from NAPA about a month ago, and one of them was bent in the same spot. I just bent it back myself. But ya, I was thinking why on earth is this thing bent?? Let us know what they say

But ya, I was thinking why on earth is this thing bent??

Easy, the middle man doesn't give a crap and tosses them around. Of course, that seal is the weakest link on there so it's the first to show any effects. I went to exchange one of my busted up advanced auto cv's and the one they had was the exact same way. Hell, the package was all busted up also. They had to order a new one and I got it the next day. Recommendation, every time you change out a cv axle, keep those seals. They come off easily with a hammer.

Interesting to know that you had similar experiences. Yeah, we shouldn't have to bend them back. I wonder if the new pair will be bent.

I hope they don't want these back, get me some spares.

Good to know. I'll be sure to keep the ones on my old axles.

Silly that companies don't seem to take any precaution when originally packaging these kinds of items.

I always get my parts at delivered to the parts store. Sure it takes a little more effort to go into the parts store, but I get to inspect my parts before I get them home and waste my time driving. O'Reilly's has a lot of parts available next day for these vehicles in Moog brand. I think they are quality parts and will run them on the front sway bar links soon. First I am going to take off the old one and have it in my hand when I pick up the part.
