Congrats on the magazine, man!

On a separate note, do you know any underground-type paint pros in SoCal? Maybe a garage magician, or a freelancer out for some extra cash? My clear coat is peeling on my hood and roof, enough that I need to repaint. I'm not going to be able to afford anything too fancy. I'm willing to pull all trim and do whatever prep I can to insure a good outcome. At this point, I'll be happy with a 10-foot paint job, which will look better than the issues I have now.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I really wish I knew someone, but all I know are professional painters who only do things their way. Sorry man. I can get you their information if you want to go all out, though.

Someday, I hope to do some new quick disconnect end links front and rear. Ideal, but not necessary at this time. $12 at AutoZone will get you some Energy Suspension polyurethane end link bushings. These are easily the most replaced bushings on this truck, this being the 4th set.

Old stuff. Black were the rear bushings. The front red ones were some cheapo knock off bushings that didn't fare too well.

I've noticed a power and mileage drop since the front bumper was installed. With all that weight, it's not very surprising, but it turns out there was an exhaust leak behind the cat. It didn't seem all that bad from underneath, but it was getting louder.

Decided to go for a visit to Collin's Muffler and Hitch for a quick weld.

They told me that the leak wasn't really that bad, but I begged to differ since the noise and mileage was suffering. Turns out the header actually cracked.

LC Engineering makes their headers with Stainless steel. They're made for strength and durability. Unfortunately, the collector is made of mild steel, which isn't so strong. Collin's welded it up for $25.

Meanwhile, since my brother hasn't touched his pile of **** truck since it was put outside, he has a 1 month deadline to fix it. (way more time than needed). It's back in the garage and I'm counting the days.

If he doesn't fix it within this month, it's going bye bye.

Cob, You ever thought of doing a long travel front end? seems like it would fit your style of wheeling really well.

You might of already addressed this but I only got to page 36 haha

Yeah, definitely someday. I want to do a total chaos long travel front. It's all going to happen much later, that's a lot of money and time to install.

Thanks for asking, I appreciate you taking the time to read as much as you have!

Well, when a thread has 69 freaking pages, you sort know you'd better look into it. LOL

I'm still waiting for the day when I get my 4Runner and Fusion paid off (will both happen this year), I get my new truck, and I can finally start modding the hell out of mine. :) And while doing so I'll be belting out "You're the inspiration" while thinking happy thoughts of CoB's truck.

Or maybe not. :biggrin2:

COB, I saw you sold the 1st gen. Did you end up installing the rebuilt motor first? What was final sale price? I would have loved to buy that thing.

COB, your thread reminds me of a fantastic, out of this world adventure. Everytime I click on it, it's like I'm going to Middle Earth and have no idea what kind of surprise I'm in for. :reddance:

Hahah So many vehicles all the time.... and your always wrenching on something! Sawweeet.

Good luck getting them paid off! Dude I'm honored haha, even if it is a joke! I'm sure I'll see your build once it takes off.

What kind of truck are you buying?

How has the SEM paint on the wheels held up so far?

Still looks excellent. No chips or scratches yet. Those who have noticed them frequently ask who did the powder coating. I highly recommend SEM products!

Where we you a few months ago? haha. I'll upload the last video I took of the truck. It ran pretty well for how screwed the engine was. Sorry but I cannot disclose any prices :P

ROFL! :lmao:

Epic post man, thank you! Haha wrenching is a great hobby, I'd post more if I had some more free time. Someday I wanna rig up some black headlights like you've got... I've seen your work and it's impressive, what do you charge for a pair?

Since you mentioned, I might as well share the current project. The next week of my life will be helping my friend swap parts from one car to another, manual swap, etc. Pulled the motor yesterday with the a used engine hoist we bought.

1989 MX6 to 1989 626GT 5-door... both mechanically identical cars. My probe is nothing but an MX6 GT with Ford bodywork and interior.

This car (left) was his project but some mishaps with the city have led to a new project:

Getting the engine out yesterday, subframe + interior already removed

Stock 626GT waiting to be completely revamped... alongside my 89 Probe GT.

What kind of truck are you buying?

Not entirely sure, actually. The requirements are:

- 4WD
- at LEAST an extended cab, if not quad

The rest is up for grabs. Leaning towards a Tundra (obviously) but having owned a 2004 F150 for 8 years, with 156K on it and literally *NO* problems (aside from a right rear blinker - LOL), I'm also partial to Fords, especially as the local dealer is one of those rare gems who actually IS all about customer service.

And I WILL get them both paid off this year. Will get income tax return in February; and that'll go right into the 4Runner, which will pay it off. Then we'll simply take the payment from the 4Runner and add it to the one we're already making on the Fusion, and it'll be paid off probably close to the end of next year.

I WILL say this - once the 4Runner's paid off in a month or two, it IS getting lifted. My plan is to at least get the lift and UCAs this next year as major stuff, and then some minor stuff as well (e.g., Wet Okole covers, sheet metal stuffs for the undercarriage, etc.)

Just got caught up on your rig. Looking great as always. I noticed in the gallery section you mentioned a possible sunroof. Curious if you were thinking of a pop or going full electric?

I like those requirements :) I'm always on the Toyota side, but if you've managed to keep that Ford chuggin this long without problems, sounds like you've got a difficult choice to make haha. I'm just glad to hear that you're a Ford owner who doesn't completely bash and ignore the facts about Toyota, not like the Ford purists I've met via the Probe forums. Then again, they're Ford purists driving Mazda manufactured vehicles... haha.

What kind of lift? UCA's are oh so nice, but last I checked they were $750/pair! That uniball upper ball joint is sooo cool. I'll be watching your thread, and if there's any OEM parts you need, hit me up and I can try to help. And hey, there's an "All Other Vehicles" section, I'd love to see a truck build once you get it.

Thanks Jared! Body shops can buy brand new roof panels, replaceable through spot welding (you're probably familiar with the way panels work already). To answer your question, I'll be going full OEM. OEM roof panel, OEM sunroof, OEM drains, OEM headliner, OEM wiring. OEM roof console with sunroof switches, too. All parts (aside from the roof panel itself) are currently in storage for another day, likely for a very long time. Hopefully I'll get the rest of the truck repainted fresh IJM at the same time.

I can say that I'm always on the Toyota side NOW; but I'd never owned a Toyota until October 2011, believe it or not. LOL

As far as vehicles go, bluntly put, I'm on the side of statistics. *shrug* I can't count the # of people who will listen to me give a long, impassioned, fact/statistic filled case, and then respond to my half-hour long epic debate killer with "....well, that's nice, but I've always liked _____."

:ybrick:

Just so happens that Toyota statistically has been very reliable...but other stats show other trucks are better than they used to be.

I suspect that when the time comes, if we can swing it, we'll get something like a 2008 to 2011 Tundra; if not that new, maybe the previous generation. Hard to argue with stats, and even my wife said "NOW I understand why Toyota." :)

Well, concerning the UCAs, as high quality as Toyota is, I WILL NOT sacrifice reliability. We originally bought this for our last-resort 'go anywhere in winter' 4WD vehicle...and then after that I stumbled onto this forum and caught the bug. LOL From what I understand, UCA's are the way to go (unless I'm missing something). So if that's the best/most reliable option then I'd rather hold out for those.

As far as the rest of the parts, I'd like a good mix of daily driving quality and off road capability; I've heard good things about Toytec's ultimate lift kit. Any thoughts?
