Last day as an automatic... about damned time. What a stupid waste of a transmission.

The pilot bearing got in the way. All of the local autozones had the puller but no slide hammer. We tried the grease method and it ended up blowing apart the bearing. Gotta grab a new one tomorrow morning through Worldpac. As of now, the flywheel has been installed and torqued to 80 ft/lbs.

Tomorrow will be installing the transmission, cutting the shifter hole, installing pedals, and wiring.

Got the pilot bearing sorted out this morning with a brand new one.




Auto brake pedal removed


Compared to manual


Slave cylinder and clutch master


Clutch line


Holes drilled for clutch master/pedal


Transmission tunnel with automatic cutout.


Manual cutout made.



She's coming along nicely! Transmission is in, just buttoning up the clutch pedal/slave, gotta wire it, and then she's ready for action!!

No luck bleeding the clutch by myself, otherwise, she's all done!

Yes sir... marlin crawler shift bushings installed today. She's tight.

The socket bushing was the red one, forgot to take a pic...

Also got a shift fork boot and a new boot for the shifter.

The interior shift boot will come together when I find the right one I want, along with the 5-speed interior pieces and new center console, which will all be painted black with SEM color coat...

Very interesting! I may be in contact in the case what the donor truck provided is not suitable. I have yet to really inspect.

Perfectly reasonable excuse, redoing the house seems more important! haha.

I was lucky to have found a donor truck with these tires on it. The only catch is one of them, which is really badly cupped and worn. The rest are practically brand new, they have so much tread.





Anyone who is familiar with the Mud Terrain KM knows that they've been discontinued for some time now, and that they're only made in 255/75/17 for Jeeps. You can imagine this was pretty disappointing, I couldn't buy another in the size I needed without finding an ancient worn out pile of crap tire.


Then, I found this. This guy has had this single tire in his garage for several years. It was the same size I needed, and it was BRAND NEW. It's like he kept it there waiting for me. It's nice and rubbery with no slight hint of any dry cracks. Pretty damn happy about that.




I've got a new leather shift boot on order, waiting to get it in. I'll get the shift surround and new console painted, then remove the rear heat blower motor to fit it all in. Still debating what I want for a shift knob.
