Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

I keep going back and forth with the setting options on the 5100s. I'd like to keep the lift amount to 1.5"-2" in the front max as I want to keep some slight rake in the stance. I am not lifting the rear.

Right now my current measure (ground to fender) are 33.25"(f) and 36"(r) the 2 options I keep thinking about are:

Option 1: FJ spring w/ 5100s set to the 'stock' setting + 1/4" toytec spacer for an extra .5" of lift

Option 2: FJ spring w/ 5100s set to the '0.85' setting w/ no spacer

I've seen people in this thread say that the 0.85" setting is more like 1.5" w/ stock springs and another ~1" with FJ springs. I feel like thats a bit more then I'm looking for but it's hard to say. I'm leaning towards keeping the clip on the bottom setting and adding the 1/4" spacer on top. No sure though, any suggestions?

Assuming you're 4WD, we basically have the same truck.

I went with 5100s and Moog 81108s in the front (5100s set to 0") and suspect that if I hadn't replaced the rears, it would be very close to level. As is, it still has a bit of rake with the Moog 81045s in back.

YMMV and every truck is different, but thought I'd share.

Thank for the input. I spend a good part of this morning reading the thread with final results/measurements that other member got. I feel pretty confident in Option 1 (clip at stock setting + 1/4" spacer). The coils I'm using have about 40k on them so their not new and probably have a little sag in 'em as-is. I think the extra .5" from the spacers should do the trick.

Hey guys, I've been reading a ton on here, some great info all around... I bought an 06 SE 4WD V6 a couple months ago and I'm about to lift it and go with bigger tires. I ordered Bilstein 6112 (set at 6/4) and 5160 along with a pair of JBA UCA's. The plan is to go with 285/70/17 KO2's. Currently, completely stock, I'm sitting at 33.25" in the front and 35.75" in the rear. I've been going back and forth about rear springs, I'm now leaning towards the FJ coils. I'm aiming to have slight rake, closer to level. The 6112's should give me around 2.5-2.85" lift in the front so the FJ coils (1" lift unless I'm mistaken) should get me right where I want to be. Does this sound right or am I missing something?

By any chance when swapping with the FJ suspension, I noticed that the toytec body lift is cheaper than the springs. Should I go for the 3 inch body lift and wait to save money. I was thinking about doing the Icon stage 5 suspension with modified high clearance lower control arms.

Just swapped my suspension out this weekend (5100s all around with 07-09 FJC coils)! My question is how long should i wait for everything to settle before i get my truck aligned?

I'd say a day or 2, I wouldn't wait too long afterwards. I'm planning on doing my suspension swap on Saturday with an alignment scheduled for the following Monday morning.

Any pictures with the new FJ suspension?

Got it, I’ll see if I can squeeze in somewhere later this week then. Just nervous because I netted a little over 3” (unsettled)in the front, set the strut at 1.75 but it leveled me right out. I think the rear is about 1/4” higher technically, I’d have to double check what I got for measurements. Here’s a crappy phone pick though IMG_4627.jpg

Thanks - I keep going back and forth between setting the front to the second (.85") setting or leaving it on the stock setting and adding a 1/4" top out spacer. I'm not planning on lifting the rear right now so I'd like to keep the lift to around 1.5"-2" total.

There’s a great spreadsheet and thread that was put together that should help you answer that question believe Ark_runner started it

ok, so what needs to be modified on the strut to make a set from a 2010+ work? I found a Toytec Ultimate kit for sale locally, but it's for 10+ 4Runner & 10+ FJ Cruiser...

2005 V6 4x4. Original x-reas system was starting to go, rear right shock was leaking(DEC 19'). Had already been digging into this thread like crazy, tons of great info and setups, so thanks all! Had the job done mid March this year.

Bilstein 5100 all around, front @ 1.75
OEM FJ coils front and rear(2012 4x4)
1" Cornfed rear spacer
1.25" Spidertrax
265/70/17 Hankook DynaPros for now....

Measured from ground through center of wheel to fender.

Before
Right Front - 33.75
Left Front - 33.5
Right Rear - 36.12
Left Rear - 36.25

After
Right Front - 36.5
Left Front - 36.25
Rear - 37.75 both sides

First page, original post. Not sure if this applies to the ultimate kit though. Toytec could probably clear that up for you.

According to X6RUNNER:
The 2010 front FJ strut's lower joint needs to be modified in order to fit a 4Runner. The rear mounting hole (on the chassis) also need to be enlarged to fit the larger bushing washer. It can be done with some power tools.

Just completed the swap over the weekend.

I deleted the XREAS system with 5100s all around. I left the rear springs stock and swapped just the fronts with new OEM 4x4 FJ springs. I set the clip on the bottom/stock setting. As noted from other members, I gained, pretty much, exactly an inch of lift with that combination.

If anyone is interested in doing this swap, I have a used set of front 4x4 FJ springs and a pair of brand new Wheelers 1/4" top out spacers I didn't end up using. Looking to sell to anyone who is interested.

Got new OEM FJ springs and 5100s for my 05 V8. It has 245k on the original shocks and struts, so it will probably look lifted with everything at the lowest setting.

5100 on FJ spring set at 1.75 is the way to go! So happy with the mild lift and alignment stayed in factory specs

this looks great. i'm looking to upgrade to 5100's set to 1.75 and Fj springs as well.
quick question, everyone just says "FJ springs" but should i be looking for a particular year of FJ cruiser springs? thanks so much.

i have a 2008 Hilux Surf SSR-X Limited 2.7L 4WD.
( i don't know what the 4runner equivalent is.)
