Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

I'm running tacoma springs up front with 5100's set at 2.5, got about 4 inches of lift out of it, so you should be fine running them with daystar spacers. Cv's are fine i think...one tore a boot but that may be because i re-clamped them too tight. I have stock uca's too...drives fine. I'll get uca's eventually but that'll probably be when I get new tires.

Did you add spacers to the rear with the super flex?

Has anyone done just the 5100's with stock springs? Trying to decide if I should get FJ springs or not and what height to set the 5100's to.

I have two 4th gens with 5100's on them
1 with stock springs
1 with Daystar 2.5 spacer and fj springs

If you use stock sprins , bilstein 5100's on lowest setting will provide almost no lift. Thus gives you 3 settings to gain lift on.

BFGs 255/75 17 mounted

^ Thanks...Bilsteins are maxed out which made it a bit taller up front. I took the chance of the front "bro" rake because I'd rather have that over the negative rake.

NUB Question

Like several others, I have spent about two weeks reviewing this very informative thread as well as the gallery, and want to thank you for all of the great info. I have a question regarding a lift for my 08 limited with XREAS:

For occasional mild-moderate off-road use at most, has anyone run into many problems with the Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift (breakage, loosening, shifting, etc)? The reason I ask is I am considering the swap to the FJ springs/5100's all around with 1.5 spacer lift as used by many, but my XREAS is in good working order with just over 70,000 miles. Either way, it seems a spacer would be involved. Any reason to scrap a perfectly good system because other members have run into issues with the Daystar 2.5/1.5? Ideally, I am looking to modify my limited daily driver to look like "Cricoid's" awesome looking runner (page 160 of the gallery thread) who is using the Daystar 2.5/1.5 vs. "28.'s" excellent looking ride running FJ coils/5100's all around without a spacer lift. Does this require front splashguard modifications to run 265/65/18's? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks again for all of the great information!

Cheers

The X-REAS won't last forever, and why do it twice? Spend less than $400 with shipping and buy yourself some Bilstein 5100's. Use your stock springs, adjust the front shocks to desired lift, buy a spacer for the rear and be done with it. Rides great on the road still, but does much better when on the trails. You can add FJ coils to the mix if you'd like, but not much reason too as it will firm up the ride on the road and from the sounds of it you may not like that to much.

Thanks for the info, I have decided on the FJ coils (2014, 500 miles on them) and the 5100s. If I set the front at 1.75 with the coils all the way around and add a 1" cornfed lift to the rear, this should yield about 2.5/1.5" front/rear, correct?

I would like to run 265/65/18's BFG AT's, will there be any rubbing with this set up?

Thanks again to the collective, just want to have this right the first time.

Shouldn't be, those tires are barely bigger than stock.

2013 FJ Cruiser Springs / Bilstiens

image.jpgSo... I bought and installed my Bilstiens and FJ cruiser springs. The springs are from a 2013 FJ cruiser. I am trying to find out, what is the correct color for the driver and passenger side springs? I installed the grey/purple on drivers side and orange/purple on passenger side.

However, after installing the shock and spring on the drivers side, the bolt on top off the shock is sticking out a lot further than the passengers side. Plus, when I hit small speed bumps I hear a clunk sound coming from the drivers side. This occurs at low speeds( 15-30 mph).

I can send you pictures if that helps too.

Thanks to everyone who I sent PM to also.

So, I will be the first to admit that I left out the bottom cushion and washer when I installed the problem shock. Went back into the shop and fixed it this morning and now... the 4Runner rides like it should.

Thanks again to everyone that helped me identify what was wrong.

FJ Shocks and FJ Springs

Second post and need some help. I went through this whole thread over the last two days and I am still amazed at all the different combinations. Here is what I am wondering. I am about to buy front and rear shocks and front and rear springs from a 2008 FJ. I was wondering if I could use the whole setup along with my Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer with these. Will this work and will I need to install a differential drop. If you have any advice I would appreciate it. It will be going on a 2003 4runner 4x4 v8.

It will definitely work, and I doubt you'll need the differential drop. At normal ride height there shouldn't be much stress on your CV boots as they'll be fairly straight; however, at max articulation on the front end they will definitely be flexing. It all depends on what you use the vehicle for most of the time. If you'll do a bunch of off-roading, a diff drop is basically insurance for your CV joints, but with approximately 3" of front lift from your proposed setup, my novice opinion is that you'll be fine.

Just wanted to post this up as a reference for anyone considering the FJ swap. I have an '07 Limited 2wd v8, and replaced the stock suspension with 4x4 springs from a 2012 FJ trail team. I have the following set up:

Front - Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks, clip on bottom setting. 2012 4x4 FJ trail team springs. Daystar 1.25" topout spacer (this one)
1.25" Lift Poly Front Coil Top Spacer Kit

Rear - Bilstein 5100 shocks. 2012 4x4 FJ trail team springs. Daystar 1.5" rear spacer.

Wheels/tires - Tundra split spoke wheels with 265/70/17 Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires. I know they calculate out to 31.65", but they actually measure just under 30" when laid flat on the ground so I know there's no load compressing the tire.

Anyway, here's what it looks like after a couple hundred miles of settling.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have a picture of FJ Shocks with a Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift and how did you like it. I am doing mine this weekend so I will post a couple pics on here at that time.

clarification

Hi guys I need a little help here. I've read that yellow/green is drive side and gray/green is passenger. However, what I have is orange/purple and gray/purple. To my knowledge, this is taken off of a 2013 base model.

The orange/purple seems to have less coils and they're spaced further/larger gaps. Whereas the gray/purple has more coils/smaller gaps.

Can someone please shed some light? Thanks!

I have the same springs as above. From a 2013 FJ ,The orange/purple seems to have less coils and they're spaced further/larger gaps. Whereas the gray/purple has more coils/smaller gaps.

Read and Re-Read all the shock coil posts , and Nobody just plainly states which side is the Orange/Purple , which is the Gray/Purple.

Don't confuse me with saying the Green has been replaced with the Purple.

As fas as I can tell there is no length difference on my shocks/coils.

So which is which ??????? Any definitive answer much appreciated. thanks
