I am also wondering this. My friend has springs from a 5th gen trail sitting around collecting dust.
Sounds like u will have to test our theory as no one else seems to know or considers the possibility.

I have stock springs, 1.5 rear spacer and I put front at 2.5. It's an inch lower in the front, if definitely do the same on your setup.
Thanks for the input. Wondering if the FJ springs and 5100s at 2.5 will put it even higher or level? I rear somewhere to expect .5" from the front springs.
Am i wrong to assume that would equal 3" and if at 1.75 setting + .5, i'd be at 2.25" lift?

Sorry this is a long-ish one, but I had a few questions, as this spring/shock swap is DEFINITELY happening in my future.
1.) FJ Bilsteins vs. Bilstein 5100. Is the 5100 a much better shock, or do people just like it because it's adjustable?
2.) I read that along with the basic FJ coils/shocks/struts swap, a front spacer (toytec 1/2" or cornfed 1" for V8 4x4) is recommended to "level" the car (which I want, and level referring to the running boards parallel with the ground). With the 5100's, is the spacer still necessary, or does the adjustability of the 5100 replace this? This is assuming no spacer on the rear.
Basically, I'm wondering if it's really worth it to spend a little extra on the 5100's. I don't mind spending the extra if they really are an all around better shock, just curious as I spend hours reading through threads. I'm not looking for huge lift, but enough for fun, and a decent improvement in ride quality.
If only I concentrated this well at my day job lol.
Just throwing this out there for thoughts. Could aftermarket "oe" replacements ment to be used in the 07-09 fj be used in the 4 runner? Or does it have to the the actual dealer parts for the swap? 2005 v8 sport. Current xreas system. Thanks
Q1: Will an FJ coil swap & shock change with a lift decrease the on road or high way ride quality?
Q2: What about the impact to on-road handling? (Better, worse, no change)
I just did this on my 2004 v8 4x4. I don't know what the shocks came off of, I think a '14 trd taco. I installed them with a 1" actuall, 2" lift spacer. My front fender gap went from aproxamatly 4.5" in the front, to 8" on the drivers side, and 8.5" on the pass side. Should I swap the shocks from R to L, to fix that 1/2" gap difference? Or should I leave it?
Partial response... I just installed 2011 FJ springs with the struts/shocks that came with them. Came off a TRD FJ. Added Toytec front spacer.
Ride is firmer in a good way. Less body role and it corners a lot better on road. No extra noise but hard to tell since I have the Borla exhaust on a V8.
There is a left and right to the springs. I initially put them on backwards and created 1/2" difference in front, 1" difference in back. After I swapped it, I had 1/8" difference in front, 1/2" in back which I think is par for the course.
I'm actually referring to the front left and right sides, I left the back stock. My left is 1/2" taller that the right(drivers), so I'm wondering if I should swap the springs out.
